VERLEEN CARDON
Verleen Cardon, 66, died Dec. 16, 2007, in Vancouver.
Cardon was born Oct. 30, 1941, in Roberts, Idaho. She lived in Camas for 45 years where she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Prune Hill. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and being with her family.
Survivors include husband Mel Cardon, at home, sons Matthew Cardon of Battle Ground and Mitchell Cardon of Camas, daughters Verla Happell and Valerie Chandler, both of Vancouver, father and step-mother Del and Marlys Schneider of Skamania County, sisters Marie Croll of Washougal, Sharon Dowden of Seattle and Lynn Packard of Oregon, 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Vault interment was at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Vancouver, with Brown’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Camas, in charge of arrangements.

GERTRUDE CARLSON
Gertrude “Gertie” Irene (Sproul) Carlson, 86, died May 10, 2008, in Battle Ground.
Carlson was born April 20, 1922, in Battle Ground, and lived in Clark County for 70 years, and in Battle Ground for the last 21 years.
Carlson was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, jigsaw puzzles, playing the piano, country-western music, being outdoors, gardening and coffee. She had worked as a payroll secretary for the state highway department.
Carlson was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Carlson, in 1983, Survivors include daughters Yvonne Poeschl of View, Lorretta Babikoff of Battle Ground, Virginia Lansford of Oregon and Nancy Skellenger of Vancouver, sons Daniel Carlson of Portland Dennis Carlson of Battle Ground, Don Sproul of Brush Prairie, and Harley Sproul and Edgar Sproul, both of Prineville, OR, sisters Dorothy Wills and Ruth Andrus-Walker, both of Oregon, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Sat., May 17, 1 p.m., at Hazen Chapel, Amboy, with interment at Mt. View Cemetery, Amboy.

DANIEL CARLSON

Daniel Gene Carlson, 58, died May 18, 2008, at home in Portland.

Carlson was born July 26, 1949, in Vancouver, and grew up in La Center. He served in the U.S. Navy and then worked as a carpenter. He worked as a carpenter for Western Partitions Drywall for 18 years.

Carlson moved to Oregon in 1974. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, scratch offs, going to casinos, watching westerns and reading.

Carlson was preceded in death by his father, Lawerance Carlson, in 1983, and mother, Gertrude Carlson, on May 10, 2008. Survivors include step-daughters Pamela Grater and Tami Olsen, both of Portland, sisters Virginia Landford of Oregon, Yvonne Poshell of View, Loretta Babikoff of Battle Ground, and Nancy Skellenger of Vancouver, and brother Dennis Carlson of Battle Ground.

A funeral service will be held Sat., May 31, 1 p.m., at the Hazen Chapel, 38813 NE 119th Ave., Amboy. Burial will be at Mt. View Cemetery, with Gresham Funeral Chapel, Gresham, OR, in charge of arrangements.

CODY CASS
Cody Stanley Cass, 23, died Dec. 2, 2006, in an automobile accident in Kent.
Cass was born May 24, 1983, in Bend, OR. He lived in the View area of Clark County from 1987 until 1995. He attended Battle Ground High School. He moved to Kent about a year ago. He worked in construction at Fort Lewis Army base.
Cass enjoyed all sports, especially watching football. He also enjoyed fishing and being with friends.
Survivors include father Jeff Leverne of Winlock, mother Diana Methiesen of Winlock, sisters Athena Watson of Utah, and Katrina Cox and Sharah Cass, both of Winlock, brother Wade Cass of Winlock, six nieces, three nephews, grandmother Rachel Hall of Oregon, and special love Sarah Baker, now of Yacolt.
Barton’s Family Funeral Services, Kent, was in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

JAMES CAMPBELL
James R. Campbell, 79, died March 8, 2007, in Vancouver.
Campbell was born May 14, 1927, in Spokane, and moved to Woodland in 1977. He was manager of the Old National Bank (now U.S. National Bank). He retired in 1992 after 43 years in banking. He managed banks in Twisp, Rosalia and Reardan before moving to Woodland.
Campbell was honored as Woodland Citizen of the Year in 2005. He served as president of the Woodland Chamber of Commerce in 1977 and was a member of various Chamber committees.
Campbell served on several city commissions for 20 years, including the Board of Adjustment and the Civil Service Commission. He also served as a Cowlitz County Cemetery District #2 commissioner. He was on the board of directors of the Surf Side Inn in Ocean Park.
Campbell was a member of the Eagles since the 1940s. He was also a member of the Ridgefield Nazarene Church. He played the trumpet in the Eagles State Band.
Survivors include widow Margaret Campbell, at home in Woodland, daughters Geri Campbell of New York, and Molly Keene and Barbara Parlet, both of Spokane, step-sons Rob Pengra of Ridgefield and Randy Pengra of Oregon, step-daughter-in-law Sue Pengra of Woodland, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Vancouver, with Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, in charge of arrangements.

MARGUERITE CAMPBELL
Marguerite Dorothy (Kindsfather) Campbell, 87, died Oct. 5, 2007, in Vancouver.
Campbell was born March 26, 1920, in Greeley, CO, lived briefly in Portland, and then moved to Clark County where her family cleared land and farmed. She attended the newly-built Orchards Elementary School and graduated from Vancouver High School in 1938. She lived in Clark County most of her life.
Campbell married Frank A. Campbell Jr. in 1939. The family moved to Seattle where she and Frank worked for Boeing during World War II. They returned to Orchards in 1945. Campbell cooked for the Evergreen School District until her retirement in 1985.
Campbell enjoyed fishing trips, including trips to Canada. She also enjoyed trips to Alaska and Arizona. She was an active member of the Brush Prairie Baptist Church and enjoyed working with young children at the church beyond her 80th birthday.
Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Campbell, in 1989, and grandson Troy in 2002. Survivors include sons Ron Campbell of Oregon and Steve Campbell of Vancouver, sister Marian Rudberg and brother Vern Kindsfather, both of Vancouver, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Viewing will take place Fri., Oct. 12, 5-9 p.m., at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, with services set for Sat., Oct. 13, 10 a.m., also at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver.

KAREN CAPLES

Karen Anell (Wilkes) Caples, 44, died of cancer March 5, 2008, in Vancouver.


Caples was born Feb. 14, 1964, in Bountiful, UT, and had lived in Bountiful for nine years, Corvallis, OR for five years, Afton, WY for four years, Salt Lake City, UT for nine years, Bothell for five years, and Battle Ground for 12 years. She enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, and her pet cat Chelsea, and dog, Panda.


Caples had worked in property management for Al Angelo Company. 


Caples was preceded in death by her father, Lynn Wilkes in 1978, mother Gayle Wilkes in 2007, and brother Robert Wilkes in 1970. Survivors include widower Pete Caples of Battle Ground, daughters Melissa Caples of Battle Ground, son Casey Harmon of Portland, brothers David Wilkes and Eric Wilkes, both of Wyoming, and sisters Eileen Wilkes and Laurie Williams, both of Utah, and Allison Fluckiger and Cheryl Zahne, both of Wyoming.


Services will be held Sat., April 12, 2 p.m., at Living Hope Church, 10800 NE 76th St., Vancouver, with Evergreen Staples Funeral Home, Vancouver, in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

ROY CARPENTER
Roy Mears Carpenter, 79, died April 11, 2007, in Vancouver.
Carpenter was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Hamilton, MT, and lived in Clark County since 1946, the last 47 years in Amboy.
Carpenter served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, rock hunting, jewelry making and watching wrestling.
Carpenter worked as a mill worked and machinist at Schurman Machine.
Carpenter was preceded in death by son Raymond. Survivors include widow Betty Carpenter, at home, daughter Sylvia Hall of Long Beach, brother Ralph Carpenter, sister Bernice Seagle, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Mt. View Cemetery, Amboy, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

JAMES CHARLEY
James “Jimmy” Charley, 52, died Aug. 31, 2007, at home in La Center.
Charley was born July 2, 1955, in Vancouver. He was a lifelong resident of La Center. he graduated from Woodland High School. He worked as a logger in late teen years. For the past three years, he worked in maintenance at Haney Transport.
Charley loved snowmobiling, monster trucks, NASCAR, gambling and the mountains. He also loved his “boys”--Yorkshire Terriers named Dylan and Bear Puppy.
Charley was a member of the Eagles.
Survivors include former wife and forever friend Vickie Charley of Ridgefield, step-sons John Pfenning Jr. and Cory Pfenning, both of Ridgefield, half-brother Rocky Johnson of Kansas, half-sisters Wilma Desieve of Ridgefield and Arlene Bowers of Marysville, and grandson Lucca Pfenning of Ridgefield.
Visitation will be Thurs., Sept. 6, 1-5 p.m., at Woodland Funeral Home, with a funeral service set for Fri., Sept. 7, noon, at the funeral home, followed by graveside service at La Center Cemetery. The Woodland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

VIRGINIA CHIPMAN
Virginia M. Chipman, 87, died Jan. 12, 2008, in Brush Prairie.
Chipman was born July 9, 1920, in Steele, MO. She and her husband Moody Chipman moved to Vancouver during World War II to work at the Kaiser shipyards. She worked in the blueprint shop. After the war, the couple moved to La Center.
Chipman is remembered as a wonderful southern cook.
Chipman was preceded in death by her husband, Moody Chipman, in 1992, and sisters Lonnie White and Dorothy Hester. Survivors include sons Ralph Chipman of La Center, and Herman Chipman and Joe Chipman, both of Vancouver, daughters Laura White and Dot Amos, both of Vancouver, brother-in-law Allen Chipman of Ridgefield, 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will take place Sat., Jan. 19, 9 a.m., at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, followed by a service at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church, 111 E 5th St., La Center. Viewing is set for Fri., Jan. 18, noon-9 p.m., at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, with Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

THOMAS CHRISTOPHER

Thomas R. “Tom” Christopher, 67, died July 30, 2008, in Battle Ground, after a battle with cancer.

Christopher was born July 24, 1941, in Minneapolis, MN, grew up in Minnesota and Seattle, and enjoyed living in Battle Ground for nearly 50 years.

Christopher completed trade school as a journeyman sheet metal worker in 1960. His occupations included metal worker and fabricator, truck driver, farmer, home builder, and land developer. He served on church and mission boards.

Christopher loved farming and became known for his ingenuity, inventions and shop projects. He enjoyed practical jokes, traveling, bicycling, nature, and flying and the dynamics of flight. His faith in God and the Bible were of utmost importance to him.

Survivors include wife of 47 years Marilynn Christopher, at home in Battle Ground, daughters Rhoda Hilman and Renee Christopher, both of Battle Ground, and Rochelle Valivaara of Idaho, sons Richard Christopher of Battle Ground, Roger Christopher of Amboy and Randy Christopher of Yacolt, sisters Fran Karlsen of Brush Prairie and Nancy Seppala of South Carolina, 17 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment was at Lewisville Cemetery, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

JASPER CHUMLEY
Jasper Danielle Chumley died Nov. 22, 2006, a few minutes after birth.
Chumley was preceded in death by grandparents Wanda House, Joseph “Cowboy” Chumley, Jack Folsom and Dorothy Folsom, uncles LeeLynn Chumley and Allen Sewell, and aunt Colleen Brooks. Survivors include parents Joey and Danielle Chumley, grandparents Joe and Jackie Chumley and Bob and Gayle Gabbert, aunts and uncles Kelly and Jacquet Larrow, Lars Bell and Janette Chumley, Christi Gilmore, Jason Chumley, Billy Snelling, Annie Richt, Celeste Snelling and Joseph Thomas, Roman Jordan, Ryan Gabbert and Triston Gabbert, and cousins Joey Larrow, Shonie Larrow, Justin Carey, Jaden Carey, Jackota Bell, Sophia Thomas and Keith Richt.

WILLIAM CLARY
Dr. William F. Clary, 79, of Woodland, died May 11, 2007, in Vancouver.
Clary was born Sept. 13, 1927, in Memphis, TN, earned a medical degree in 1950 from the University of Tennessee, and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.
Clary lived in Springfield, MO for 36 years while practicing psychiatry. He retired in 1992 and moved to Washington.
Clary enjoyed playing bridge, speaking Spanish, and listening to classical music.
Survivors include widow Betty, at home, seven children and 14 grandchildren.
Straub’s Funeral Home and Columbia River Cremation in Camas was in charge of arrangements.

DEE COATS
Creeldee “Dee” (Johnson) Coats, 94, died March 15, 2007, in Vancouver.
Coats was born Jan. 26, 1913, in Tillamook, OR, graduated from Woodland High School in 1929 and graduated from the University of Washington. She moved to Brush Prairie in 1933 and worked for Bess Kaiser. She moved to Vancouver in 1946 and back to Brush Prairie in 1962.
Coats enjoyed cooking, entertaining, gardening, sewing, whistling and spending time with her family. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Post 114, Vancouver Cancer Society and Hazel Dell School PTA.
Coats was preceded in death by her brother Hoyt Snider, sister Alberta Coats in 1984, and her husband of 38 years, Gene Coats. Survivors include son Ken Coats of Battle Ground, daughter Chris Anderson of Brush Prairie, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held Mon., March 26, 12:30 p.m., at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, with Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

RONALD CODI
Ronald John Codi, 47, died of a heart attack Sept. 20, 2006, in Battle Ground.
Codi was born July 21, 1959, in Portland, and lived in Clark County his entire life, the last 15 years in Battle Ground.
Codi earned a master’s degree in education at Lewis and Clark in Portland. He was a softball coach and computer whiz. He enjoyed playing photography, stained glass work, and silk screening, and playing the trumpet. He taught technology, web design and animation at Battle Ground High School for 17 years.
Survivors include widow Linda Codi at home, mother Lelia Codi of Vancouver, son Ryan Codi of Vancouver, and daughter Samantha Codi, at home. Interment was at Park Hill Cemetery, Vancouver, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

CLIFTON CODY JR.
Clifton Hugh “Sarge” Cody Jr., 58, died Oct. 27, 2006, in Brush Prairie.
Cody was born Feb. 20, 1948, in Compton, CA, and lived in Brush Prairie for 19 years.
Cody worked as a corrections officer for 23 years. He operated “Sod Busters” tractor and tilling business for 10 years. He worked part-time as a security officer for Kaiser Permanente.
Cody served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. He loved his 1995 Mustang show car and Harley trike. He raised Shar-Pei dogs. He played Santa Claus for children at Larch Corrections Center for 20 years.
Survivors include widow Donna Cody, at home in Brush Prairie, daughters Tanya Roecker of Oregon and Amanda Swick of Vancouver, sons Kevin Cody of Wilsonville, WA and Nicholas Cody, at home in Brush Prairie, and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Wed., Nov. 1, 2 p.m., at Layne’s Funeral Home Chapel, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT COLLINS
Robert E. Lee Collins, 94, died June 21, 2007, in Vancouver.
Collins was born July 14, 1912, in Battle Ground, and lived all his life in Clark County, the last seven months in Vancouver.
Collins was a member of the Carpenters Union. He enjoyed both mechanical and wood home projects. He worked in residential and commercial construction.
Collins was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Collins, in 2003. Survivors include grandson Robert J. Collins of La Center, four other surviving grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Family graveside services will be held at Crawford Cemetery, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

HELEN CONDON
Helen Annabelle (Long) Condon, 85, died Nov. 5, 2007, in Beaverton, OR.
Condon was born March 25, 1922, in Chehalis, and lived in Clark County before moving to Portland eight years ago.
Condon enjoyed listening to music and dancing. She was a loving wife and mother. She had worked as a nurse in a nursing home.
Condon was preceded in death by her husband, Herb Condon, in 1969. Survivors include daughters Marie Norton of Longview, and Wanda Wilson and Louise Barry, both of Oregon, sons Bud Condon of Amboy, Larry Condon of Vancouver and Herb Condon Jr. and Rodney Condon, both of Oregon, adopted son Nick Skinner of Oregon, sisters Betty Prew, Dorothy Weatherby and Sis Condon, all of Battle Ground, and Louise Wood of Mossy Rock, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Lewisville Cemetery, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

MINNIE COONS


Minnie May (Long) Coons, 82, died May 14, 2008, in Vancouver.


Coons was born May 25, 1925, in Chehalis. She married Robert S. Coons in 1946.


Coons was a member of the Martha Washington Eastern Star for 55 years and the Pioneer Grange for 60 years. She liked to spend time at SNAP events in Battle Ground. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and gardening. She liked camping, the company of her pet dog Missy, and watching the goats at her daughter’s farm. 


Coons was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Robert, in 1982, son Leroy Coons in 1983, and sister Irine Ells in 2007. Survivors include daughters Judy Bardell of Battle Ground and Janet York of Ridgefield, sister Jeanne Yankee of Vancouver, brother Robert Long of Tacoma, eight grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.


Services will be held Wed., May 21, 10 a.m., at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, with Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

W. LOIS COTTER
W. Lois Cotter, 103, died Dec. 17, 2007, in Battle Ground.
Cotter was born March 5, 1904, in Bakersfield, MO, and lived in Camas for 61 years before moving to Battle Ground six years ago.
Cotter enjoyed gardening and wildlife. She was a 60-year member of the Washington State Grange, Fern Prairie.
Survivors include sons Eugene R. Cotter of Utah and George H. Cotter of California, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
No services are planned with Davies Cremation & Burial Services, Vancouver, in charge of arrangements.

SARAH COUCH
Sarah Isabel (Collins) Couch, 93, died May 13, 2007, in Battle Ground.
Couch was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Forked River, NJ, and lived in Clark County for 18 years, the last two years in Battle Ground.
Couch was a member of Battle Ground United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, reading and playing cards.
Couch was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Couch, in 1992. Survivors include son George Couch of Wisconsin, daughter Joann Geurds of Battle Ground, five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

OLGA HEGSTAD-COURTNEY

Olga Mable (Ness) Hegstad-Courtney, 97, died May 21, 2008, in Battle Ground.

Hegstad-Courtney was born Oct. 25, 1910, in Battleview, ND, married Henry Hegstad in 1930, and moved to Vancouver in 1940. She lived in Clark County the rest of her life.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Meadow Glade. She enjoyed making quilts and building jig saw puzzles. She made quilts for her children and grandchildren as well as for her church service organization and taught others quilting skills. She volunteered for more than 16 years at the Veterans Hospital in Vancouver.

Hegstad-Courtney was preceded in death by Henry Hegstad, her husband of 44 years, in 1975, and by Frank Courtney, her second husband of 24 years, in 2004. Survivors include sons Manfred Hegstad of Arizona, Leslie Hegstad and Byron Hegstad, both of Vancouver, Howard Hegstad of Oregon, and Jerry Hegstad of Lynnwood, daughters Marilyn Fairchild and Phyllis Bretsch, both of Vancouver, 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wed., May 28, 11 a.m., at Meadow Glade Seventh-day Adventist Church, 11001 NE 189th St., Battle Ground. ARNOLD COUTURE
Arnold “Arne” Joseph Couture, 88, died Dec. 10, 2007, in Vancouver.
Couture was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Worcester, MA, and lived in Brush Prairie for 16 years.
Couture was a member of the Brush Prairie Baptist Church. He enjoyed serving others. He liked woodworking, talking, metal working and playing cribbage. He was employed as an auto mechanic. He had also worked as a landscaper when living in California.
Survivors include widow Marge Couture, at home, son Jon Couture of Brush Prairie, daughter Sandy Couture of California, brother Jerry Couture of Massachusetts, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nieces and a nephew.
An open house is planned for family and friends. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, is in charge of arrangements.

WAYNE COUTURE
Wayne Couture, 56, died June 9, 2007, at home in Vancouver due to complications of cancer.
Couture was born March 14, 1951, in Caldwell, ID, to Mel and Mabel Couture. He worked as a custodian for the Battle Ground School District for 30 years. He enjoyed gardening, visiting the Vancouver Farmer’s Market and spending time with his two retired racing greyhounds, Bonnie and Shannon.
He volunteered with Homes for Hounds to place retired racing greyhounds.
Survivors include his wife Mabel of Vancouver, brothers Chuck of Las Vegas, NV, and David of Willits, California, sister Pam Spady of Woodland, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held Sat., June 23, 10 a.m.-noon, at Orchards Park at Fourth Plane and NE 54th Street. Remembrances can be made to Homes for Hounds, 5081 SW Pacific Coast Hwy., Waldport OR, 97394.

JANE COX
Jane Delana (Kersey) Cox, 89, died Sept. 1, 2007, in Vancouver.
Cox was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Broken Arrow, OK, and lived in Oklahoma and California before moving to La Center 16 years ago.
Cox was a member of the Meadow Glade Seventh-day Adventist Church. She enjoyed reading, making quilts and crocheting.
Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd S. Cox, in 1993. Survivors include sons Lucky Gilbert of La Center, Charles Gilbert of California, and Jess Gilbert of Nevada, step-daughters Linda Hobbs of Bellingham and Debbie Parvez of California, step-son Jack Cox of Idaho, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Zillah Cemetery in Zillah, with the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, in charge of arrangements.

VERONICA COX
Veronica (Heintz) Cox, 61, died May 2, 2008, in Portland.
Cox was born Feb. 19, 1947, in Chicago, IL, and moved to California at age 14. She had also lived in Snohomish County, and the last 15 years in the Battle Ground and Vancouver areas.
Cox loved exotic animals including llamas and alpacas. She was a fiber artist and spinner. She had her own online store for her products. She was a member of a knitting guild and the Ridgefield stitchery group. She enjoyed knitting and weaving.
Survivors include daughters Veronica Burk of Vancouver, Mickie Cooper of Lake Stevens, and Kim Burk of Edmonds, brothers Phillip Heintz of Battle Ground and Raymond Heintz of California, two nieces and one grand-niece.

KENNEDY CROSS
Kennedy Addison Cross, daughter of Wade and Michelle Cross of Dallas, TX, was still-born Jan. 7, 2007, in Plano, TX. Wade Cross is a former resident of Battle Ground.
Survivors include parents Wade and Michelle Cross of Dallas, TX, grandparents Bruce and Donna Cross, formerly of Battle Ground and now of Allen, TX, and Dennis and Cindy Wall of Lubbock, TX, and aunts, uncles and cousins.

GEORGE CROWE
George Timothy “Tim” Crowe, 53, died of heart disease Oct. 17, 2006, in Vancouver.
Crowe was born Nov. 4, 1952, in East Liverpool, Ohio, lived in Ohio for 25 years, then in Vancouver for 11 years and Battle Ground for the past 14 years.
Crowe was a member of the Battle Ground Elks Lodge. He enjoyed camping, trips to the beach, football, ice cream, jelly beans, music and cooking. He worked as a salesman for 28 years, including seven years with Portland Paper Supply.
Crowe was preceded in death by his father, George Crowe. Survivors include widow Linda Wood, at home in Battle Ground, son Timothy Michael Crowe of Vancouver, daughters Lisa Dove of Battle Ground and Amy Crowe of Ohio, mother Ruth Crowe of Ohio and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Sat., Oct. 28, 11 a.m., at the Battle Ground Elks Lodge, 907 SE Grace Ave., Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

DARRIN CUMMINS
Darrin Wayne Cummins, 45, died Dec. 2, 2007, in Oklahoma City, OK, from cancer.
Cummins was born July 17, 1962, in Portland. He lived in Battle Ground and attended Battle Ground High School. He worked in construction most of his life. He moved to Oklahoma City with his wife and daughters in 1998.
Cummins enjoyed fishing, camping, motorcycles and sports. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed sharing things he loved with others.
Survivors include widow Patty Cummins of Oklahoma City, daughters Cherity Cummins and Stephanie Cummins of Oklahoma City, parents Gary and Pat Cummins of Vancouver, brother Dusty Cummins of Kelso, grandparents Herb and Anita Cummins of Richland, and grandmother Luella Thompson of Auburn.
Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, was in charge of arrangements.

SARALYN CURTIS
Saralyn Suzanne (Reil) Curtis, 63, died Nov. 30, 2007, in La Center.
Curtis was born Oct. 2, 1944, in Richland. She lived in Seattle much of her life, and in La Center the last six years.
Curtis enjoyed gardening. She had a strong faith and enjoyed her volunteer work ministry.
Survivors include husband Don Curtis of La Center, sons Darin Curtis of Kalama and Troy Curtis of Oregon, daughters Angela Brady of Ocean Shores, and Brooke Roll and Sunny Curtis both of La Center, sister Scherion Bohlke of Snohomish, brother Richard Reil of Kennewick, eight grandchildren and many friends.
Services will be held Sat., Dec. 8, 2 p.m., at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 33209 NE Lewisville Hwy, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

Bret J. Cutler, 37, died Aug. 3, 2008, at home in Yacolt, following complications from surgery.

Cutler was born April 4, 1971, in Vancouver. He worked in the sheet metal industry for 16 years, the last 11 years with Streimer’s. He enjoyed hunting, riding quads and motorcycles, camping, traveling and the outdoors. He also enjoyed watching his daughter play sports and engaging in projects with his son. He took pride in his Dodge truck, Corvette and motorcycles. He collected eagle items. He had a joking and teasing nature.

Cutler was preceded in death by his grandparents Walt and Pearl Cutler, Sig Follese, and Ray and Leila Freidberg, uncles Lonnie Ells and Dick Ryan, and cousins Chris Ryan and Tom Henry. Survivors include parents Walt and Dorothy Cutler of La Center, son Justin and daughter Stefany, both of Yacolt, sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Jack Jefferies of Ridgefield, ex-wife Paula Cutler of Vancouver, special nieces and nephews, great-nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial service is set for Fri., Aug. 29, 1:30 p.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 11005 NE Hwy 99, Vancouver. The family requests casual attire be worn at his service, respecting his feeling about how depressing black is at a funeral.

Trust accounts have been set up at Cascade Federal Credit Union, 1706 D St., Suite C,. Vancouver, WA 98663, to benefit the minor children.
