GERTRUDE MAHAN
Gertrude Jane (Tharp) Mahan, 80, died March 6, 2007, in Vancouver.
Mahan was born June 29, 1926, in Denver, CO, lived in El Cajon, CA 1951-2006, and lived in Clark County for eight months, the last two months in Battle Ground.
Mahan enjoyed reading and her grandchildren. She was an avid fan of college football and loved the bowl season.
Mahan was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Mahan, in 1968. Survivors include daughters Kathy Elliott of Amboy and Lorri Sibley of Yacolt, sons David Mahan and Jim Mahan, both of California, and Larry Mahan of Utah, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held in California, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

MICHAEL MALINOWSKI

Michael James Malinowski, 42, died June 17, 2008, in Portland.


Malinowski was born Sept. 20, 1965, in West Chester, PA, grew up in Oakland, CA, attended Landmark College in Vermont and graduated from the University of Holy Names in Oakland, CA. He struggled with dyslexia all his life.


Malinowski was a Boy Scout. He was a member of a Judo club with his father. The club toured Japan. He met his wife, Yukiko, who was an exchange teacher from Japan at Green Mountain School. After a four-year, long-distance courtship, he and Yukiko married nine years ago.


Malinowski was coordinator of the Disability Advocacy Cultural Association. He started a program called Support Advocacy and Mentoring to help people with disabilities gain employment. 


When Malinowski died, he was participating in a meeting of a group working to improve the accessibility of a Voluntary Emergency Registry for people with disabilities.


Survivors include widow Yukiko, parents Jim and Judi Malinowski of Amboy, and brother Gregory Malinowski of Amboy.


Memorial services will be held Sun., July 20, 2 p.m., at Portland State University, Portland. His ashes will be buried at the Malinowski home in Amboy.

STELLA MANKA
Stella Pertina (Beckworth) Manka, 73, died Nov. 7, 2007, in Longview.
Manka was born March 19, 1934, in Central Point, OR, and moved to Woodland from Petaluma, CA 18 years ago. She was in the Women’s Army Corps. She worked as an administrative assistant in an extended care facility.
Manka was a member of the Eagles, Lions and the Woodland Grange.
Manka was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Plummer, sister Lou Campbert and father Nelson Beckworth. Survivors include husband Wayne Cole of Woodland, mother Clara Shipp Beckworth, son Galen Jones of Woodland, step-son Perry Manka, daughters Carla Jones of Woodland and Doris Jones of Longview, step-daughter Becky Manka, brothers Aarron Jones of Montana, Lorin Jones of Virginia and Danny Jones of Oregon, sister Marie Robinson of Oregon, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
No services will be held. The Woodland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MARJORIE MANRING
Marjorie Jean (Altman) Manring, 79, died Nov. 1, 2007, in Woodland.
Manring was born March 16, 1928, in Lewiston, ID, grew up in Idaho, graduated from Grangeville High School in 1946, and moved to Woodland in 1955. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, traveling, going to the beach, her cookbooks, family and friends. She and her husband, Gene, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August 2007.
Manring was preceded in death by her brother, Rex Altman. Survivors include widower Gene Manring, at home, sons Dale Manring of Woodland and Steven Manring of Wenatchee, daughters Belinda Bailey of Goldendale, Joyce Hawkins of Woodland and Lori High of Vancouver, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Fri., Nov. 9, 1 p.m., at Woodland Christian Church, 430 Buckeye, Woodland, with the Woodland Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

ASHLEY MARTIN
Ashley Karen (Dade) Martin, 23, died Jan. 30, 2007, in Yacolt.
Martin was born Sept. 16, 1983, in American Fork, Utah, and lived five and a half years in Yacolt.
Martin enjoyed scrapbooking, word puzzles and craftwork. She was a certified nursing assistant.
Survivors include husband David Martin, at home, mother Charlotte Dade of Utah, brother Owen Dade of Utah, and sisters Michelle, Kim, Tammy and Rachel, all of Utah.
No services will be held, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

DAVID MARTIN
David Eugene Martin, 47, died Feb. 7, 2008, in Vancouver.
Martin was born March 25, 1960, in Baldwind Park, CA. He lived in Clark County for 31 years. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a car salesman in Longview and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Ashley Martin, in 2006. Survivors include daughter Ashley Wilcox of Kelso, mother DeeDee Lieser of Washougal, brother Doug Martin of Camas, sister Kathy Lynch of Portland, one granddaughter, cousin and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sat., March 1, 1 p.m., at Brown’s Funeral Home in Camas, with Brown’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Camas, in charge of arrangements.

JUDY MARTINEZ

Judy Marlene (Blurton) Martinez, 73, died June 29, 2008, in Vancouver.

Martinez was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Emmett, ID. She attended schools in Oakland, CA. She worked for the school district in Newark, CA, then moved to Woodland in 1991.

Martinez was a member of St. Phillips Catholic Church in Woodland. She liked to cook and garden.

Survivors include husband Arthur Martinez, at home in Woodland, sons Larry Martinez and Gary Martinez, both of Vancouver, Ronald Martinez of Spokane, and Andrew Martinez of Oregon, daughters Laura Eastgate of Vancouver, Linda Martinez of Woodland and Karen Martinez of California, brother Victor Blurton of Maryland, sisters Barbara Bennett of Oklahoma, Joan Garber of California and Jackie Pierce of Yukon Territory, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Interment was at Frank Abel Cemetery, Woodland, with the Woodland Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

MADELYN MARUCA
Madelyn “Maddie” Ruth (Morse) Maruca, 34, died Feb. 2, 2007, in Vancouver.
Maruca was born Oct. 20, 1972, in Astoria, OR, and lived in Clark County for 21 years, the past eight years in Amboy.
Maruca attended Battle Ground High School. She enjoyed raising and riding horses, fishing, flower gardening, yard work and rafting. She loved the outdoors.
Maruca worked as a secretary for Property Management Company.
Survivors include daughter Ashley Swindell of Ridgefield and brother Sam Morse of Alaska.
Funeral services will be held Thurs., Feb. 8, 11 a.m., at Layne’s Funeral Home Chapel, 16 NE Clark Ave., Battle Ground, followed by interment at Amboy Cemetery, Amboy.

ERIC MATISON
Eric “Rick” Eugene Matison, 44, died Feb. 12, 2008, in Woodland.
Matison was born Sept. 13, 1963, in San Francisco, CA, and lived most of his life in Clark County. He lived in Woodland the past five years.
Matison attended Battle Ground schools. He loved life, dancing, the beach, mountains, riding his motorcycle, taking car trips, fixing cars and working on his home in Woodland.
Matison worked as a machinist at Freightliner in Portland for several years.
Matison was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Matison, who died in 2007. Survivors include mother Patsy Bosckis of Woodland, sister Shirlee Sheldon of La Center, brothers Ronald Matison of Vancouver and Tony Matison of Battle Ground, stepbrothers Larry Wing and Skip Wing, both of Oregon, and James Wing of Yacolt, stepsister Susan Gay of Vancouver, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

FRANKLIN MATTSON JR.
Franklin Lewis Mattson, Jr., 70, died April 26, 2007, at home in Carlton, OR.
Mattson was born May 20, 1936, in Portland, and moved at a young age to Hockinson. He graduated from Battle Ground High School. He served in the U.S. Army for four years.
Mattson worked for Consolidated Freightway and for Laughlin Logging. In 1969 he went to work for Publishers Paper Company, which later became Smurfit Newsprint and then SP Newsprint. He retired in 2003 after 34 years of employment with the paper mill.
Mattson lived in Yamhill County, OR area for many years. He enjoyed his grandchildren’s sporting activities. As a younger man, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. He was known for his sense of humor and wit, and was a great story teller.
Survivors include sons Brad Mattson of Oregon and Randall Mattson of Vancouver, daughters Teresa Brey, Sandra Kirkland and Sheryl Joseph, all of Oregon, sister Kathleen Jenkins of Vancouver, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Private services were held, with Macy and Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville, OR, in charge of arrangements.

ORVILLE MAXWELL
Orville B. Maxwell, 96, died Sept. 28, 2006, in Ridgefield.
Maxwell was born Aug. 20, 1910, in Valier, MT, worked as a carpenter, and lived in Clark County the past 64 years.
Maxwell was a member of the Carpenters Local No. 247, AFL-CIO. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II. He enjoyed fishing and dancing.
Survivors include sons Robert Maxwell of Goldendale and Denny Maxwell of La Center, sister Llewellyn Kelly of California, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Park Hill Cemetery, Vancouver, with Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home, Vancouver, in charge of arrangements.

MARIE MAY
Marie Joyce (Rodden) May, 74, died Jan. 15, 2007, in Battle Ground.
May was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Battle Creek, MI, and lived in Clark County for 39 years.
May enjoyed camping, fishing and going to the beach. She also enjoyed antiques. May owned Ridgefield Pharmacy and Liquor for several years.
Survivors include daughters Kathy Chandler of Battle Ground, Patti Preston of Idaho and Karen Bishop of Montana, sons Fred Hodgkins of Battle Ground and Thomas Hodgkins of Vancouver, brother Bill Rodden of Oregon, 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

MERCEDES MCDONALD
Mercedes Charlotte (Thomas) McDonald, 93, died Dec. 18, 2006, in Battle Ground.
McDonald was born Sept. 19, 1913, in Sheridan, WY, and lived in Battle Ground for five years. She had worked as a retail grocery clerk.
McDonald was a member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and her family.
McDonald was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel George McDonald, in 1974. Survivors include son Daniel McDonald Jr. of Pennsylvania, daughter Sylvia Van Ourkerk of Battle Ground, sister Florence Jeffries of California, 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Interment was at All Souls Cemetery in Vallejo, CA, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

NORA MCDONALD
Nora Charline (Sheehan) McDonald, 72, died Oct. 29, 2007, at home in Vancouver.
McDonald was born June 4, 1935, in Danville, IL, graduated from Holy Family Academy in Beaverville, IL in 1951, and attended nursing school at St. Mary’s at Notre Dame. She also studied nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
McDonald married Phillip McDonald on Dec. 31, 1955, and lived in Iowa. In 1964, the family moved to Longmont, CO. In the early 1970s, both Nora and Phillip returned to college with six children ages 3-12.
McDonald worked for a year at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fort Lyon, CO, before transferring to the VA Hospital in Vancouver in 1974. She worked on the respiratory ward for five years. She worked for the Battle Ground School District as a school nurse from 1979 until retiring in 1999.
McDonald enjoyed gardening, traveling and genealogy. She was considered an excellent seamstress and sewed wedding gowns for two daughters and many, many bridesmaids.
McDonald was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip, in July 1998. Survivors include daughters Charline Wright of Washougal, Cathleen Cooney of Missouri, Julie Zander of Toledo, Susan McDonald of Oregon and Jackie Young of Woodland, son Phil McDonald Jr. of Colorado, 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services were held at Mother Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Vancouver, with Hamilton Mylan Knapp Gunderson in charge of arrangements.

MARIAN MCINTOSH
Marian (Beadle) McIntosh, 92, died Aug. 19, 2007, in Longview.
McIntosh was born May 22, 1915, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, lived in Vancouver and Ridgefield, and then in Longview the last several years.
McIntosh was preceded in death by her husband, Jack McIntosh, in 1992. Survivors include son Jay McIntosh of Castle Rock, daughter Nancy Weber of Vancouver, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one niece.
Private interment was at Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver, with the Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory in charge of arrangements.

SYLVIA MCKENNEY
Sylvia Alice “Sam” (McCormick) McKenney, 66, died March 15, 2007, at home in Woodland.
McKenney was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Vancouver. She lived in Texas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Idaho and Washington. She spent six years in Bonners Ferry, ID, and the last year of her life in Woodland.
McKenney enjoyed knitting, crocheting and her family.
McKenney was preceded in death by her father, Joseph McCormick, sister Marie McCormick and brother Jerry McCormick. Survivors include widower Eugene McKenney of Woodland, son Daniel McKenney of Woodland, daughter Theresa Rodregeus of Longview, mother Bertha McCormick of Yakima, sister Sandy Wischmann of New Mexico, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

JOHN MCKINNEY
John Lee McKinney, 87, died May 22, 2007, in Battle Ground.
McKinney was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Rogers, Arkansas. He lived in Clark County for nine years, the last five years in Battle Ground.
McKinney served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed gardening and collecting things.
McKinney worked as a sheet metal worker in the aircraft industry for over 30 years. He had been employed by American Airlines.
McKinney was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, in 2003. Survivors include daughter Jeanie Elmer of Battle Ground, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

ELLEN MCLOONE
Ellen Frances (Nestler) McLoone, 83, died Jan. 10, 2008, in Woodland.
McLoone was born Dec. 22, 1924, in New York, NY, attended school in New York, and lived in Florida from 1965 until 1979 when she moved to Vancouver. She moved to Woodland in 1981.
McLoone worked at McKey Radio in New York, was a lunch room manager in Florida, and later worked in Kelso for the state Department of Social and Health Services.
McLoone enjoyed crocheting, baking, cooking and gardening. She volunteered at St. Philips Catholic Church and the Senior Meals program. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
McLoone was preceded in death by her husband, John McLoone, sons Michael McLoone and Thomas McLoone, and grandchildren Angela McLoone, Brian Bell and Luke McLoone. Survivors include sons John McLoone of Texas, and James McLoone and Kevin McLoone, both of Woodland, daughters Bridget McLoone of La Center, Grace Bell of Florida, Mary Pawlowski of New Jersey, and Pat Strautman of Vancouver, brother James Nestler of Florida, sister Grace O’Brien of California, 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

RICHARD MCNAIR
Richard “Dick” McNair, 78, died Feb. 3, 2008 in Yuma, AZ. McNair was born July 8, 1929 in Trenton, NE. He lived in Colorado then moved to Vernonia, OR, in 1943 where he
graduated from high school in 1948. He married Patsy “Pat” Gibson in 1948 and the couple
moved to Yacolt in 1961, where they lived until her death in 1989.
McNair served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed with the International Paper Company in Vernonia until being transferred to Yacolt. After the mill closed
he continued to work in the saw mill industry performing sales and equipment installment throughout the nation as well as New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Canada. He married Amy MacArthur
in 1991.
He was a little league coach and a volunteer firefighter in Amboy. He was involved with the restoration of the Amboy Historical Museum and contributed to Amboy Territorial
Park. He enjoyed reading the newspaper and visiting with friends.
McNair was preceded in death by his first wife in 1989, son Scott McNair of Battle Ground, step-daughters Tammi
Shasteen of Ephrata, OR, April Verlinde of Yacolt and Helen MacArthur of Vancouver. Survivors include his wife, Amy
McNair of Amboy, brother Robert McNair of Vernonia, sisters Louise Dillow of Rifle, CO and Sharon Rotter of San
Diego, CA, daughters Sue Dier of New York, Keri Tobel of Amboy, Teri Sund of Battle Ground and Lisa McNair of Yakima,
19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sat., Feb. 16, 2 p.m., at the
Amboy Grange Hall. Coffee and refreshments to follow the service. Remembrances can be made to the North Clark Historical Museum or to Amboy Territorial Park in lieu of flowers. Sunset Vista Funeral Home in Yuma is in charge of arrangements .

SCOTT MCNAIR
Richard Scott McNair, 55, died Dec. 6, 2007, in Battle Ground, after a 2-year battle with cancer.
McNair was born June 15, 1952, in Portland, lived in Vernonia, OR, and moved with his family to Amboy at age 6. He graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1970.
McNair earned a degree in microbiology and public health from Washington State University in 1974. He worked for the Clark County Health Department before starting his own septic engineering and consulting business which he continued for nearly 30 years.
McNair was also active in real estate, land development and home building, and owned an equipment rental shop, a motel, and a mobile home park. He also raised alpacas and other exotic animals.
McNair’s first wife, Pam Dunning, died in 1997. In 2001, McNair married Jackie Doney of Vancouver. The couple continued the septic and alpaca businesses and opened a tanning salon in Vancouver.
McNair was an avid hunter and had several world-class trophies. He enjoyed traveling and family vacations.
Survivors include widow Jackie McNair, at home in Battle Ground, father Dick McNair of Amboy, son Cory McNair of Ridgefield, daughter Traci Kuzma of Vancouver, step-sons Jason and Jordon Dixon of Washougal, and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Fri., Dec. 14, 2 p.m., at Summit View Church, 7701 NE 182nd Ave., Vancouver, with private burial at Memory Memorial Park, Vancouver. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, is in charge of arrangements.

WILEY MCNEAL
Wiley Miles McNeal, was stillborn Sept. 21, 2007, in Vancouver.
Survivors include parents Andrew and Lorraine McNeal, at home in Amboy, grandparents Grant and Kennon McNeal of Yale and Lewis and Sherry Wheatley of Amboy, great-grandmother Marie Johnson of Vancouver, great-grandfather Walt McNeal of Woodland, great-grandparents Jack and Donnie Kelley of Yale, great-grandmother Lavon Wheatley of Yale, great-great-grandmother Dorothy Yeo of Longview, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services will be held Sat., Sept. 29, 11 a.m., at Lone Pine Cemetery located east of Woodland on SR-503. A reception will follow at Pleasant View Community Church in Ariel.

MARY MCPEAK
Mary Agnes (Johnson) McPeak, 67, died Sept. 17, 2007, in Battle Ground.
McPeak was born Dec. 10, 1939, in San Pedro, CA, and lived in Battle Ground for 11 years.
McPeak grew up in Long Beach, CA where she attended high school. She graduated with a degree in biology from California State University in Long Beach in 1963. She married Ron McPeak in 1963.
McPeak enjoyed gardening, reading, church activities at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Battle Ground, spending time with her grandchildren and chatting with her African Grey Parrot, Birdie.
Survivors include daughter Suzanne McPeak of Battle Ground, son Ken McPeak of Utah, sister Pauline Cole of California, and three grandchildren.

BYRON MENN
Byron Bartlett Menn, 36, died March 10, 2008, at home in Woodland.
Menn was born March 21, 1971, in San Antonio, TX. He lived in Washington for 26 years, last at Woodland. He graduated from the Magee Brothers School of Beauty and was a hair stylist. He enjoyed snowboarding, hiking and traveling.
Survivors include mother Sylvia Fellows of Woodland, father Stephen Fellows of Woodland, son Raistlin Rothery of Oregon, brothers Curtis Menn of California and Matthew Menn of Woodland, and six nieces and nephews.
The Woodland Funeral Home is in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

VIRGINIA MENOTTI
Virginia Lee “Denny” (McMillen) Menotti, 79, died Oct. 21, 2007, in Vancouver.
Menotti was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Fort Scott, Kansas. She graduated as a licensed practical nurse in 1957 in St. Louis, MO, and was proud of being a nurse. She worked in the medical field for over 30 years.
Menotti lived in the La Center/View area for over 45 years, and in Battle Ground the last four years. She enjoyed dancing in her younger years, watching Dancing with the Stars and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years Joe Menotti, at home in Battle Ground, daughters Connie Givens of Battle Ground and Linda Bevard of Vancouver, sister Faye Stogsdill of La Center, brothers Bob McMillen of Centralia and Joe McMillen of Vancouver, aunt Virginia Taylor of Vancouver, four grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A date has not yet been set for graveside services, with Davies Cremation & Burial Services handling arrangements.

OPAL MESSER
Opal Ruby (Hall) Messer, 97, died Oct. 25, 2007, in Vancouver.
Messer was born July 24, 1910, in Powell, MO, and lived in Battle Ground the past three years.
Messer enjoyed eating hamburgers, riding in the country, animals, and music. She liked to play the piano and organ.
Messer was preceded in death by her husband, Heber Messer, in 1995. Survivors include daughter Sue Albright of Battle Ground, son Vern Messer of California, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Interment will be a Pea Ridge Cemetery, Pea Ridge, Arkansas, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

PATRICIA MILLER
Patricia Joyce Miller, 75, died May 31, 2008, in Vancouver. She lived her life in the Ridgefield and Woodland areas. Miller was born July 21, 1932, in Woodland. She enjoyed cooking. She worked various jobs during her life. She had a compassionate nature and helped anyone she could. She enjoyed working outdoors with her garden and flowers. Miller was preceded in death by her first husband, Auto Miller, and second husband, Earl Jackson. Survivors include daughters Valerie Lang of Vancouver, Debbie Griffiths of Brush Prairie, and Fay Miller of Vancouver, sons William Miller of the Tri-Cities, and Karl Miller of Ridgefield, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. No services will be held at this time, with the Woodland Funeral Home, Woodland, in charge of arrangements.

HUBERT MILLS
Hubert Preston Mills, 88, died Feb. 21, 2008, at home in Vancouver.
Mills was born Dec. 29, 1919, in LeQuire, OK, lived in Cheney, and then in Vancouver the past two years.
Mills served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He worked as a professor at Eastern Washington University and served as chairman of the Management Department in the School of Business. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Cheney and then the United Methodist Church in Salmon Creek. He was also a member of the Republican National Committee and the Cheney Kiwanis. He held a doctorate in business administration from Oklahoma A&M, Stanford School of Business and George Washington University. He was an avid reader. He loved his family.
Mills was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Mills, second wife Rae Mills, brothers Buster Mills and Roy Mills, and sisters Freda Havens and Norma Crawford. MAX MINTZ
Max Samuel Mintz, 82, died March 19, 2008, in Vancouver.
Mintz was born June 13, 1925, in New York City, NY, and moved to Vancouver in 1988. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He learned to cut open coconuts in the South Pacific. He met Ingrid Bergman at the Hollywood USO Canteen. In 1948, he married Priscilla “Pat” Morlock. He loved teaching. He enjoyed reading, gardening and photography. He was a professor of psychology for many years at Lewis Clark State College in Idaho.
Mintz was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, in 1992. Survivors include sons Eric Mintz of Georgia and Paul Alex Mintz of Battle Ground, daughter Karen Jones of Oregon, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Interment was at Crawford Cemetery, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES MONTFORD
Charles K. Montford, 88, died Aug. 22, 2007, in Battle Ground.
Montford was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Long Island, NY. He served in the military police during World War II. He worked as a postal carrier, retiring in 1976. He enjoyed traveling, including trips to Europe.
Montford was preceded in death by daughter Patricia Clark in 2002, brother Richard Montford in 2007, and sisters Alice Cariker in 1971 and Mona Lengyle in 1974. Survivors include widow Irma Montford, at home in Battle Ground, daughters Dian Page of California and Kathy Mollett of Brush Prairie, son Michael Page of Vancouver, brother Ted Montford of Costa Rica, seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The Steele Chapel, Long-view, is in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

BEN MOON
Benjamin B. “Ben” Moon, 63, died June 22, 2007, in Vancouver.
Moon was born Sept. 4, 1943, in Emmett, ID, and worked as a brakeman with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 35 years.
Moon grew up in Idaho, and moved with his family to Mooseheart, IL, Seattle, Ellensburg, Wishram, Yacolt, and finally to Vancouver. He graduated from Mooseheart High School in 1962 where he was a champion in both football and wrestling. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and watching NASCAR races.
Survivors include sons Sean Moon, Benjamin Moon III and Brad Moon, daughter Michelle Balles, brothers Ed Moon and David Moon, sisters Maxine Ryan, Maureen Weisser, Kathy Houvener, Marsha Moon and Lena Moon, and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tues., June 26, 6 p.m., at Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home, Vancouver. A gathering of family and friends will take place before the memorial service at the Vancouver Moose Lodge 2-4 p.m.

JOHN MONGILLO
John Mongillo, 81, died May 6, 2008, in Vancouver.
Mongillo was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Derby, CT, and lived in Clark County for 55 years, the last 43 years in Battle Ground.
Mongillo served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He also served in the Merchant Marines. He loved the sea. He enjoyed going to the beach, watching sports, shooting pool and going out to eat.
Mongillo worked for James River Corporation.
Mongillo was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Krystle Stevens, in 2007. Survivors include wife of 53 years Bette Mongillo, at home, daughters Cheryl Gaule and Michelle Wiser, both of Battle Ground, and Tina Donald of Oregon, son Gerald Mongillo of Ocean Park, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were held at Crawford Cemetery, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

WES MONROE
Wes C. Monroe, 83, died June 27, 2008, in Vancouver. Monroe was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Clear Lake. He retired from the Navy and went to work and later retired from the Port of Tacoma. Survivors include widow Violet Monroe of Vancouver, son Dick Monroe of Eatonville, step-daughter Sheryl Kelly of Vancouver, eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

INA MORITZ
Ina May (Kegley) Moritz, 88, died Sept. 20, 2007, in Vancouver.
Moritz was born June 9, 1919, in Carthage, Indiana, and lived in Vancouver since 1945. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, lunch dates, puzzle books, reading the newspaper, watching her favorite shows, and volunteering.
Moritz was awarded the Spirit of Clark County 2005 Volunteer of the Year award. She volunteered with the Vancouver Veterans Hospital, American Red Cross and Clark County Health Department for many years. She was loved by all.
Moritz was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Moritz, in 1978, and son Ronald Moritz in 1995. Survivors include daughter Barbara Tilford, two grandchildren, extended family members and friends.
Services will be held Sat., Sept. 29, 12:30 p.m., at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver.

ELIZABETH MORRIS
Elizabeth “Betty” (Campbell) Morris, 73, died Feb. 13, 2008, at home in Battle Ground.
Morris was born May 10, 1934, in Curwensville, PA, graduated from Cleveland High School in Tacoma, and married Navy man Charley Morris in Auburn July 24, 1952. The couple moved to Florida and then to Vancouver in 1955.
The couple owned and operated Pacific Clock Shop on Main Street in Vancouver for 27 years, selling the shop in 1995 when Charley Morris retired from Boise Cascade.
Morris volunteered at Emmanuel Baptist Church, serving on the Christian Education Board and as a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed Tai Chi at Lakeshore Athletic Club, and traveling to England, Korea, Alaska, the Panama Canal, Australia, New Zealand and Fuji. She also enjoyed reunions of the USS Boxer naval ship.
Morris was preceded in death by daughter Connie, at birth. Survivors include husband Charley Morris, at home in Battle Ground, daughters Carolyn Morris of Portland, Joy Morris of California and Nancy Roegner of Battle Ground, sons Steve Morris of Puyallup and Larry Morris of California, brother John Campbell of Indiana, sister Lil Hall of Oregon, and seven grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Memory Memorial Park, Vancouver, with Evergreen Staples Funeral Home, Vancouver, is in charge of arrangements.

DELORIS MORTENSON
Deloris S. (Royle) Mortenson, 90, died Dec. 24, 2006, in Woodland.
Mortenson was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Litchfield, Nebraska. She lived in Clark County since 1947, in Ridgefield since 1952. She had worked as a plant supervisor at Nabisco.
Mortenson was president of the Washington Artists Association for three years. She was also a member of the American Business Women’s Association. She enjoyed oil painting and traveling, especially to the beach.
Mortenson was preceded in death by her husband, Osvil (Oz) Mortenson, and daughters Shirley Lee and Peggy Smith. Survivors include twin daughters Paulette Hering of Woodland and Claudette Beaber of Vancouver, 83 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Committal was at Sara Union Cemetery, Ridgefield, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

CHANCE MOSBY
Chance Lucas Mosby, 24, died in late June 2008. Cause of death has not been determined. His body was found in a vacant Vancouver home on June 30. Mosby was born on Dec. 9, 1983, in Cottage Grove, OR. He later lived in Rochester, WA and later moved with his family to Ridgefield about 12 years ago. He attended View Ridge Middle School and Ridgefield High School, and later attended La Center High School. Mosby was a gifted athlete and standout basketball player. He was selected to play on a team that traveled to Australia and New Zealand. He also loved animals. Mosby is survived by his parents Tomi and Derral Mosby of Ridgefield, brother Kenny Mosby of Rochester, sisters Staci Mosby of Oregon and Lacy Mosby of Ridgefield, grandmother Wanza Leigh of Oklahoma, and girlfriend Shannon Shaw of Ridgefield. A memorial service was held July 8 at the Ridgefield Church of the Nazarene. Donations may be sent to Compassionate Fund, Ridgefield Church of the Nazarene, 747 Pioneer Ave., Ridgefield, Wa. 98642. Baby boys Logan Patrick Mungovan and Liam Ronald Mungovan died Dec. 5, 2007, in Vancouver.
Survivors include parents Daniel and Tessell Mungovan at home in Vancouver, grandparents Kim and Ron Leighton of Vancouver and Ray and Camille Mungovan of Illinois, great-grandparents Maxine Child of Vancouver and June Mungovan of Illinois, uncle Kiel Leighton of Vancouver and aunt Kelly Mungovan of Illinois.
Graveside services were held at Fern Prairie Cemetery in Camas, with Brown’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Camas, in charge of arrangements.

HILARY MURDOCH
Hilary Anne (Cockroft) Murdoch, 71, died March 10, 2007, near La Center.
Murdoch was born Aug. 20, 1935, in Yorkshire, England, and moved to Canada at about age 10. She helped train race horses in Canada and was a licensed practical nurse.
In about 1974, after the death of her son, Bruce, Murdoch moved to La Center and worked as a home health caregiver. She enjoyed gardening. She was an artist. She was known for her sense of humor and dedication to her patients.
Murdoch was preceded in death by brother, Rodney Cockroft, son Bruce Murdoch, and many friends. Cascadia Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of arrangements

FLORA “TRUDY” MURET

Flora Gertrude “Trudy” (Turpin) Muret, 91, died July 26, 2008, at the Welcome Home assisted living facility in Battle Ground.

Muret was born Aug. 23, 1916, in Winfield, KS, graduated from Winfield High School and attended Southwestern College for one year. She worked as a dental assistant. In 1940, she married Frederick H. Muret. After some time on the family farm, Fred Muret made a career of the U.S. Army and the family traveled to numerous military bases in foreign places. She made many life-long friends along the way.

Muret enjoyed playing golf until she was 80 years old. She also enjoyed watching golf on television. She is remembered for her pleasant personality, quick wit and the sound of her laughter. She retired in Spokane and lived the last 2 1/2 years at Welcome Home in Battle Ground.

Muret was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Frederick Muret, in 1996, and by her seven siblings. Survivors include daughter Janice Lagler of Vancouver, grandsons Nathan and Tyson Lagler, granddaughters Bree Shoup and Amy Johnson, and five great-grandchildren.

MALYNDA MURHAMMER
Malynda Patricia Murhammer, 41, died Jan. 17, 2008, in Vancouver.
Murhammer was born Aug. 24, 1966, in Portland, and grew up in Gresham, OR. She worked as a safety director in the trucking industry.
Survivors include daughters Lacey MacArthur of Kirkland and Brittany Murhammer of Vancouver, parents Bill and Lyndia Murhammer of Boring, OR, sister Charlene Bruner of Oregon, grandmother Vivian Murhammer of Oregon, and aunt Patricia Fiedler of Oregon.

ZELMA MURPHY
Zelma Dorothy (Lowman) Murphy, 82, died May 8, 2008, in Vancouver.
Murphy was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Humphrey, Nebraska, and moved with her family to Minnesota and Oregon, finally settling in Woodland where she met Donald Murphy. They were married in 1948 and lived in Woodland for 58 years. Donald died in 2006. Murphy then moved to Vancouver.
Murphy was devoted to her husband and children. She had enjoyed dancing to big band music at Holcomb’s Ballroom and at Jantzen Beach. She also enjoyed trips to the beach, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Murphy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Murphy, in 2006, and grandson Doug Cahill. Survivors include daughters Peggy Bohman and Diane Cahill, both of Vancouver, and Carol Fernandez of Oregon, son Donald Murphy of Woodland, sister Neva Ligman of Oregon, brothers Lester Lowman of California and Marvin Lowman of Oregon, 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wed., May 14, 1 p.m., at Woodland Presbyterian Church 756 Park St., Woodland, with the Woodland Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
