The Whipple Creek Seventh-day Adventist Church will be hosting a free community event. Dinner with the Doctor will start at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.

Is high blood pressure a permanent diagnosis? Dr. Harold Lee, a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation will discuss this common, yet serious health concern. Following the presentation, Dr. Lee will address audience questions before dinner.

“Hypertension is known as the ‘silent killer,’ associated with stroke, heart attack, heart and renal failure. Additionally, many of the medications used to treat it can have unpleasant and/or dangerous side effects,” says Annette Ward, nursing instructor and event coordinator.

Participants will discover how a few simple steps may reduce their medications as well as prevent and reverse hypertension.

According to the Center for Disease Control, one in every three Americans has high blood pressure, but less than half have it under control. Left uncontrolled, the American Heart Association warns, complications from high blood pressure become more and more serious. However, the good news is that some basic education and a simple lifestyle changes can go a long way to minimize and eliminate these problems.
