Merry-Go-Round Resale hosting annual Spring sale

Back in 2011, four Battle Ground area mothers decided to take their love of shopping and resale clothing and turn it into an opportunity for other area residents who were in need of new items for their families.

Diane Kaarto, Kylie Pegorago, Jana Sarkinen and Sharon McDaniels started Merry-Go-Round Resale and have put on Community Consignment Resale Events twice a year. The new spring edition will take place Fri., March 8 from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sat., March 9, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

“This will be our fourth event held in Battle Ground,” said McDaniels. “Having participated in similar sales in the Portland area, we wanted to offer this to the Battle Ground community as well.”

Merry-Go-Round’s focus is on quality children’s clothing, equipment and toys, as well as young women and juniors clothing in excellent condition at affordable prices.

“We carefully inspect each item to make sure there’s no tears, stains, or flaws,” said McDaniels. “We also try to offer a wide selection of name-brand and store-brand items as well and also have a section of homemade boutique items made by local women.”

As part of the event, Merry-Go-Round welcomes consigners looking to part ways with clothes and items they don’t need anymore and are looking to make some money and help out their fellow families.

“Unlike most consignment stores, participants with us earn 70 percent back on what gets sold,” said McDaniels. “And if they come in and volunteer with us during the sale days, they earn an additional 10 percent on top of that. We also make sure they receive a check shortly after the event ends, so they don’t have to wait for the return on their investment with us.”

McDaniels added that there is also an option to “Drop & Go” with their items, but there is only a 50 percent return on total sales, with a limit of 100 items per consignor.

Registration can be done online at Merry-Go-Round’s website, www.merry-go-roundresale.com/consign, with a $10 fee required, and information on preparing items. Items can be dropped off at the sale location on Thurs., March 7, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Unsold items will be available for pick up after the event ends on March 9, from 5-6:30 p.m., and any items not claimed will be subject to donation.

For McDaniels and her friends, they’ve been happy with how their semi-annual sales have helped both people in need of clothes and clearing out their closets.

“Due to the current economy, this is a great opportunity for families to sell and recycle their childrens’ outgrown clothing and purchase new items for a fraction of the retail cost,” said McDaniels.

Merry-Go-Round Resale’s event will be held at the old Blockbuster Video space in the Fred Meyer shopping complex, at 11 NW 12th Ave., in Battle Ground. For more information, email info@merry-go-roundresale.com.
