The PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Foundation kicked off its $10 million Neurosciences Campaign with almost $2 million in commitments, including a $1.5 million pledge from Thomas and Sandra Young of Vancouver.
In honor of their pledge, a new dedicated neurosciences unit will be named the Thomas and Sandra Young Neurosciences Center. The center will care for patients dealing with brain and spinal injuries, stroke, tumors and other neurological disorders. These patients require the most advanced and specialized treatment possible. Each year, as many as 2,700 patients receive specialized inpatient neurologic care at PeaceHealth Southwest.
“Sandra and I are pleased to be able to make this pledge,” said Thomas Young. “We know firsthand how critically important it is for patients to receive the finest in brain and spinal care. It is our hope that others in the community will join us in supporting the Neurosciences Campaign.”
“We are delighted that the new neurosciences inpatient unit will be named for the Youngs,” said Sy Johnson, CEO and chief mission officer of the PeaceHealth Columbia Network. “This generous commitment will help elevate PeaceHealth Southwest’s already strong neuroscience program to a new level of excellence.”
Thomas Young founded Northwest National Bank and Regents Bank, and currently serves on the PeaceHealth Southwest Foundation Board. The Youngs have both been actively involved in the community, supporting organizations including Goodwill of the Columbia-Willamette and the Boys and Girls Club.
Additional commitments to the campaign include $100,000 from Ron and Terry Prill, and $100,000 from Rebound Orthopedics and Neurosurgery. Oregon Electric Group has pledged $250,000, which will be raised through an annual golf tournament over five years.
