Area basketball players receive all-league honors

The Prairie High School girls basketball team walked away with the top awards when the Greater St. Helens League named its all-league teams for the 2012-13 season.

In a vote by the league’s coaches, Prairie senior Cori Woodward was named the Class 3A GSHL Player of the Year and the Falcons’ Mike Smith was named Coach of the Year in his first season guiding the program.

Prairie senior Megan Lindsley was named to the all-league first team and freshman Aislinn Konig was also tabbed as a first-team selection.

Prairie sophomore Lindsay Asplund was named to the all-league second team.

Here’s a look at other area athletes who received all-league honors:

Class 4A

Battle Ground placed two players on the Class 4A boys GSHL all-league first team. Senior Miles Luke and junior Jamie Ford were the Tigers named to the first team.

The Tigers’ girls team was represented on the all-league team by senior Haley Hamilton, who was named to the first team. Battle Ground’s Mallory Olson, a senior, was named to the 4A girls second team.

Class 3A

Prairie’s boys were represented on the 3A GSHL all-league first team by senior Preston Brooks. Teammate James Phillips, a junior, was named to the second team.

Class 2A

Hockinson and Ridgefield were well-represented on the 2A GSHL all-league teams.



On the boys team, Hockinson senior Wyatt Yearout and Ridgefield junior David Potter were each named to the first team. Hockinson also placed two players on the second team – juniors Jack Klodt and Alan Haagen.

Ridgefield juniors Josh Mason and Kyle Morris each received honorable mention honors.

On the girls first team were Hockinson junior Katelyn McGuire and Ridgefield junior Shannon Boyle. Hockinson senior Brianna Curtiss and sophomore teammate Sydnie Cole were named to the 3A girls second team.

Ridgefield seniors Jessica Shaffer and Lizzy Vance received honorable mention honors.

Class 1A

La Center’s Katie Whitten, a sophomore, was named the co-Most Valuable Player on the Class 1A Trico League girls all-league team.

Woodland sophomore Sidra Malik and teammate Jessica Flanagan, a freshman, were each named to the Trico League’s all-league first team. La Center junior Sam Wise was also a first-team selection.

Woodland sophomore McKenna Mulder was named to the second team and teammate Gracie Trice, a sophomore, was honorable mention. La Center’s Ashley Denney, a freshman, also received honorable mention honors.

On the boys 1A all-league team, Woodland junior Tanner Huddleston was named to the first team and teammate Kyle Hendrix, a junior, was named to the second team along with La Center’s Wyatt Aguirre, a sophomore, and Austin Myers, a senior.

La Center juniors Matt Braaten and Connor Wonderly and Woodland sophomore Troy Flanagan received honorable mention status.
