Area soccer teams battle for state birth in district round

The Ridgefield Spudders and Hockinson Hawks girls soccer teams earned spots in the 2A girls state tournament after the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) District 4 girls soccer tournaments concluded Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Ridgefield Spudders started their postseason with a 4-0 win over Woodland High School on Nov. 2, propelling the Spudders to face off against the Evergreen Conference’s No. 1 seed Tumwater on the road. On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Spudders punched their ticket to state with a 3-0 victory over the Thunderbirds. On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Spudders won/lost their matchup against rival Columbia River Rapids, 2-0, earning the district title and the No. 1 seed in the state playoff.

The Hockinson Hawks fell victim to Tumwater High School on Nov. 2, landing them in the loser bracket. On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Woodland Beavers and Hockinson Hawks battled in a back-and-forth game, resulting in a 4-3 Hawks’ victory, which ended the Beavers’ season. Hockinson matched up against W.F. West High School of Centralia on Saturday, Nov. 9, resulting in a 4-2 win to go to state.



The La Center Wildcats season came to a close in the 1A District 4 tournament. On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the Wildcats lost to Montesano High School, 4-1, landing them in a loser-out matchup with Rochester High School. On Thursday, Nov. 7, the Wildcats’ season ended with a 1-0 loss to Rochester.

The Prairie Falcons earned a spot in the 3A District 3/4 tournament but their season closed in just game one with a 3-0 loss to Central Kitsap High School.
