Battle Ground Public Schools received several awards for its career and technical education program in August during the Washington Association for Career and Technical Education’s summer conference.
Cindy Arnold, the CTE director at BGPS, took home the Administrator of the Year Award, while Kris Neal, the work-based learning coordinator, was honored with the Counseling and Career Development Professional Award.
“It is a surprise and an honor to be recognized,” stated Arnold in a news release. “We have so many great things happening in our district, and the CTE staff puts forth so much effort for their programs and care so much about their students. We work really well together.”
Arnold attributed the honor to the team atmosphere in her department.
Work-based learning is a key part of the district’s CTE program, stated the release. The method provides students with the opportunity to receive on the job training in addition to their education.
Two area employers were also honored for their part in helping students. Prairie Electric received the association’s Outstanding employer award of merit for community service, while Tapani, Inc., was given the association’s business-education partnership award.
Both businesses were honored at a Battle Ground School Board meeting on Aug. 23.
