Battle Ground city councilmember Troy McCoy recently earned a certificate of municipal leadership from the Association of Washington Cities.

The association’s leadership program recognizes elected officials in cities and towns who accomplish training in five areas, stated a news release. Those areas include roles, responsibilities, and legal requirements; public sector resource management; community planning and development; effective local leadership; and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“Being a city leader in Washington is a complex job,” said the association’s CEO Deanna Dawson in a news release. “Through our CML program we are providing our elected officials with the knowledge they need to effectively operate within the law, plan for the future, secure and manage funds, foster strong relationships, and work to build more equitable communities.”

McCoy completed more than 30 hours of training to earn the distinction.

“I look forward to a path of continued learning so I can serve in the best way possible,” McCoy said.
