A Battle Ground man pleaded guilty to federal firearms charges in connection to a standoff in 2019 where guns, including one bearing a swastika, were recovered.

A release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Western District of Washington, announced Lynn Manley Cargile, 44, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Tacoma on Dec. 8 to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Cargile faces up to 10 years in prison for the charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 18.

Cargile took a plea deal and initially faced an additional charge of possession of unregistered firearms when he was indicted by a grand jury in August. The charges stem from a six-hour standoff that occurred on Dec. 26, 2019 at Cargile’s residence in the 200 block of Southwest 12th Street in Battle Ground.

Police were called by Cargile’s ex-wife who had been assaulted, the Department of Justice release stated. After waiting hours for Cargile to surrender, officers used flashbang devices to get Cargile to exit the house and he was taken into custody.

Officers noted several firearms in the home when they secured the house, the release stated. After obtaining a warrant, officers discovered an AR-15-style rifle with a swastika on the butt, a short-barrelled rifle and two silencers.

Cargile wasn’t allowed to be in possession of a firearm because of prior felony convictions he received in Clark County, the release stated. His prior convictions include attempting to elude in 2002 and 2003, and illegal firearms possession in 1999 and 2002.

Cargile was in state prison until August 2021 serving a 29-month prison sentence for domestic violence stemming from the same incident, the release stated.

The case was investigated by the Battle Ground Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Assistant United States Attorney Angelica Williams is prosecuting the case.
