UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the meeting has been canceled by Battle Ground Public Schools. A new meeting date will likely be announced by the end of the week of Jan. 19, according to director of communications and community engagement Amanda Richter.

Battle Ground Public Schools (BGPS) invites people to attend informational public meetings on capital levy Proposition No. 7 on the Feb. 13 special election ballot.

The proposition that voters are being asked to approve would provide funds to update the schools and increase security, according to a press release by BGPS, which stated Battle Ground Public Schools buildings are aging despite ongoing maintenance.

Many roofs and air conditioning systems are nearing the end of their warranty, according to the release, and students taking classes in the construction trades, culinary arts and health sciences do not have sufficient space or equipment. Technology has become outdated, the press release added.

The community presentations will share facts about the levy.

A remote webinar will be hosted from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16. The webinar will be recorded, and participants may join via bit.ly/3RycKPm.

An in-person meeting will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Lewisville Campus, Room C-26, 406 NW Fifth Ave., Battle Ground.

If approved, voters would pay $0.44 per $1,000 of assessed property value for each of the three years of the capital levy. Collection would begin in 2025. The levy rate would be the same as the rate for a bond that expired at the end of 2023.
