Battle Ground Public Schools recently recognized the winners of its 63rd annual District Art Show during a school board meeting.
High school students received juried awards in four categories that included 2D, 3D/sculpture, photography and digital, while middle school students received juried awards by grade level.
Special awards were also presented to students from all grade levels, stated a news release. Those awards included best of show, the Bob Peck awards, the superintendent award, the board’s choice awards and a people’s choice category.
More than 500 people voted online for the people’s choice category in a virtual gallery.
The art show was started in 1959 by then Battle Ground art teacher Bob Peck in collaboration with city librarian Florence Rieck. It has been an ongoing tradition since that time.
This year’s winners include:
Superintendent award: Nellie Davis, Captain Strong Primary
Bob Peck award: Sylvia Carlson, Yacolt Primary; Colby McGraw, Amboy Middle School; Marcus Rotschy, Battle Ground High School
Best of show: David Tribon, Yacolt Primary; Mason Bruckelmyer, Amboy Middle School; Sydney Schafte, Prairie High School
Board’s choice awards: Sydney Whisenhunt, Prairie High School; Eda Homola, Tukes Valley Middle; Emma Flowers, River HomeLink; Vivianna Nguyen, Prairie High School; Emerson Hoyt, Captain Strong Primary
People’s choice: Pippa Crouch, Pleasant Valley Primary; Lucy Humphrey, Chief Umtuch Middle School; Brianna Morrell, Prairie High School
First place by grade:

Sixth grade: Lexie Hunt, Laurin Middle School
