A group of Battle Ground Senior Citizens (BGSC) board members and the Battle Ground Parks and Recreation director Kim Cederholm recently participated in a Dementia and Friends presentation on Nov. 21. The Dementia Friends program is a global movement, aiming to change the perception of dementia.
The Dementia Friends program, led by the University of Washington Medicine Memory and Brain Wellness Center on behalf of the Dementia Action Collaborative, provides in-person and online dementia education. The curriculum aims to teach participants how to make a difference for those with dementia, a press release by BGSC stated.
Currently, 180,000 individuals have completed the Dementia Friends course across the United States, the program’s website stated.
Dementia Friends frequently partners with senior-related organizations taking the lead in their county or tribe. The program is currently focused on expanding across Washington, the press release stated.
