Winter sports for local high schools have sprung back to life with the first games of the season. Last week, the boys basketball teams returned to the court again as several North Clark County teams added a win or loss to their record for the 2022-2023 season.
Trico League 1A
La Center High School
In their first game of the 2022-23 season, the La Center Wildcats lost in a home game to Morton-White Pass 65-86 on Nov. 29. The Wildcats had a 7-15 record last season, winning three of their eight games against other Trico 1A teams.

The Hockinson Hawks started the season off with a solid win during a home game against Centralia as they secured a 59-32 victory on Nov. 30. The Hawks had a 4-15 record last year, winning four of its 12 games against teams in its league.

The first game of the season for the Ridgefield Spudders on Nov. 30 against Castle Rock was rescheduled to Dec. 16, so Ridgefield’s season began on Dec. 5 against W.F. West.
The Spudders had a winning season last year with an 18-6 record. They won 13 of 16 league games as they secured the second-best record among 2A teams in the Greater St. Helens League. Ridgefield managed a nine-game winning streak in the middle of the season.

Woodland High School
The Woodland Beavers began this year’s season in Kalama on Friday with a 74-22 win. The Beavers had a 13-8 season last year, with 11-5 in the league, the third-best record for 2A teams in the Greater St. Helens League. They started off last season with three straight wins, which included a season opener against La Center with a score of 55-49. Woodland also won both of their games against Hockinson and one of two of their contests against the Spudders.

The Prairie Falcons began their 2022-2023 record with a 49-61 loss to Seton Catholic. The Falcons had a 6-10 season last year, with a 3-5 GSHL 3A record. The team finished that season with back-to-back wins against Battle Ground and Heritage with scores of 62-45 and 69-34, respectively.

Battle Ground High School
The Battle Ground Tigers started off their season with a win, beating Columbia River 73-60. The team had a 5-13 season last year, losing all six games against league opponents.
The Tigers beat school district rivals Prairie in their first game last season, 79-70, but lost their last game of the season to the Falcons 45-62.
