C-Tran will temporarily reduce fares for 2022

The board of directors of C-Tran approved a temporary, 12-month fare reduction for local and express routes next year at its meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 14.

The reduced fares will go into effect on Jan. 1, stated a news release.

The change will lower the local bus fare from $1.80 to $1 per ride for adults, while the adult express fare will drop from $3.85 to $2.50 per ride.

Some of C-Tran’s honored and youth fares will also be discounted and the C-Van fare will drop from $1.80 to $1. Daily and monthly caps in the Hop Fastpass, as well as regional fares, will not change, stated the release.

“The temporary fare reduction is primarily focused on easing the burden of transportation for those who continue to rely on C-Tran, and for those who may return to our system during the next year,” stated the release. “Tuesday’s board action followed extensive public outreach that included virtual and in-person open house meetings in November.”

Comments from the public were overwhelmingly in favor of the reduced fares. The C-Tran Citizens Advisory Committee previously recommended that the temporary fare reduction move forward.

Once the reduced fares go into effect, the Hop Fastpass cards will automatically be programmed to charge the lower amount per ride on the corresponding C-Tran routes. Cash fares will also be accepted at the lower amount.

C-Tran is the regional public transportation provider for Clark County. It offers local bus service within the county service area, as well as regional and express bus service to Portland. C-Tran also provides connector service within the city limits of La Center, Ridgefield, Vancouver and Camas.
