Charles E. Rhodes

Charles E. Rhodes, 91, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021, at the Woodland Retirement Center in Lacey, Wash. Charles was born April 13, 1930, in Wathena, Kans. He was the son of A.L. Rhodes and Ethel May Karnes.
His family moved to Benton City, Wash., during World War II, and Charles attended school at Ki-Be in Benton City, Wash. He would live and work in and out of the area until 1967, when the family moved to Woodland, Wash. He was married to Bernice Rhodes for almost 40 years before divorcing in 1990. Dad would move to Missouri, later back to Idaho, and finally settling in Pe Ell, Wash., in 2003.
Dad would live in Pee Ell until he transitioned to the Woodland retirement center in Lacey, Wash. He was an Iron Worker out of Local 29 in Portland, Ore., working 27 years before his retirement. He loved to go hunting and being out in the woods was a great enjoyment to him. We shared many years of hunting in Washington and trips to Colorado. In the 1950's it was on horseback, but that gave way to the ATV's very soon. He was especially fond of his Weatherby rifles and collecting pocket knives. In retirement, bird watching was a special hobby.
He is survived by three adult children, James E. Rhodes of Yelm, Wash., Jeffrey C. Rhodes of Vancouver, Wash., and Janet D. Anderson of La Center, Wash.; one grandson, Tom Rhodes of Woodland, Wash.; three great-grandsons, Hunter Rhodes of Battle ground, Wash., Garrett Rhodes of Yelm, Wash., and Parker Rhodes of Battle ground, Wash.; a brother, Ted Rhodes; and sister, Dorothy Stacy, both of whom live in Kansas.
Charles will be buried in Benton City, Wash., at the Evergreen Cemetery.Arrangements are being made by Einan's at Sunset Funeral Home, 509-943-1114. Graveside services will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Benton City, Wash., at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
