Clark County deputies fatally shoot person after police pursuit

Deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed an assault suspect after a police pursuit on Oct. 17.

At approximately 2:22 a.m., deputies tried to stop a vehicle associated with a person they had probable cause to arrest for a first-degree assault with a handgun, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The individual didn’t pull over and a pursuit ensued. Deputies were able to stop the vehicle after they completed a successful PIT maneuver in the area of Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast 49th Street, stated the release.



The person exited the vehicle armed with a handgun and failed to comply with deputies so the police shot the person, stated the release. The individual was located a short distance away deceased and in possession of a handgun.

The Southwest Washington Regional Independent Investigation Team is conducting an investigation. The involved deputies were placed on critical leave in accordance with standard protocol.
