The executive board of directors of the Clark County Republican Women (CCRW) is undergoing a unification effort to spur voters to support Joe Kent, R-Yacolt, a candidate for Washington’s Third Congressional District in the general election.

CCRW will ask its members to officially endorse Kent, who came in second place in the Aug. 2 primary election, at its general membership dinner on Sept. 9.

“The future of our Republic is at stake,” stated Liz Pike, president of CCRW, in a news release. “By unifying behind America First candidate Joe Kent, we have a real opportunity to retire Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the U.S. House. We will achieve this by holding the Third Congressional District seat firmly in Republican hands coupled with national efforts to gain a majority in Congress. The primary election is over. We have a single candidate and it’s time for residents in Southwest Washington to come together to support Joe Kent.”

Kent beat out incumbent Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, in the primary election, garnering 1,096 more votes than her. The election was certified with Kent getting 50,097 votes, or 22.78%, while Herrera Beutler secured 49,001 votes, or 22.28%.

Early election results showed Herrera Beutler in the lead but as additional ballots were counted Kent pulled ahead into the number two spot behind Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who garnered 68,190 votes, or 31.01%.

CCRW made national news in February of 2021, when the organization strongly condemned Beutler’s vote to impeach then president Donald Trump, stated the release. The organization stated the congresswoman demonstrated “a complete disregard for ‘we the people’” through her actions.

“CCRW understands what’s at stake. Joe Kent’s Democrat opponent is in lock-step with Pelosi’s America-killing agenda,” stated the release. “The CCRW Executive Board is thus united in its support for Joe Kent, a valued CCRW member, and his America First agenda of promoting strong borders, energy independence, lower taxes, fully funding veterans and law enforcement officers, protection of the unborn, upholding First and Second Amendment rights, and America First trade and foreign policy.”

Pike said “We must stand in unity with Joe Kent to take our country back.”

CCRW is the largest Republican Women’s organization in Washington state.

The primary election was certified statewide on Aug. 19. The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 8.
