Clark County Sheriff’s Office warns about new scam

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents of a new scam where someone calls victims and identifies themselves as a representative from the sheriff’s office.

The scammers have been using the names of department employees. They then instruct the person to contact them to discuss a legal matter, stated a news release.

“The Clark County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind people the sheriff’s office will not ask for cash in person or to meet some place to pay cash to alleviate your arrest warrant,” stated the release. “The sheriff’s office does not ask for nor take gift cards as payments for fines.”

If people are unsure of a call’s legitimacy, they are encouraged to reach out to the county sheriff’s office at 564-397-6079.

Questions or concerns about warrants, money owed for fines or other possible legal matters involving the sheriff’s office can be addressed by calling the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Department at 564-397-2397 or the Clark County Court at 564-397-2000.
