Clark County’s COVID case rate starts to drop again

Clark County’s rate of recent COVID-19 cases is trending downward again, according to latest health department data.

In Clark County Public Health’s Nov. 10 update, the department reported 350.6 cases per 100,000 population over 14 days, down from 398.6 the week prior. The information was released a day earlier than usual, but the health department still released a week’s worth of data since the reports are generated on Wednesday afternoons for Thursday publication, according to the health department.

Between Nov. 4 and Nov. 10, Clark County had 846 additional COVID-19 cases, including 710 confirmed cases and 136 probable cases based on antigen tests. The county has had a total of 38,881 confirmed and 4,391 probable cases since the outbreak began. There were 934 active cases as of Nov. 10, which are ones still in the isolation period.

Clark County Public Health reported eight confirmed COVID-19 deaths in its Nov. 10 update, and one suspected to be due to the disease. The confirmed deaths included two men older than 80, a man in his 70s, two women older than 80, two women in their 60s, and a woman in her 50s. The suspected death was a man older than 80.



The additional deaths put the county’s total at 511, including 469 confirmed and 42 deaths suspected to be because of the disease.

The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County saw a decrease as of the health department’s update. As of Nov. 10, 11.9% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or ones awaiting test results, down from 14% last week. COVID-19 patients occupied 17.2% of intensive care unit (ICU) beds in the county.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions saw an increase, as Clark County Public Health reported 11.2 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, up from 9.6 per 100,000 the week prior. Total hospital bed occupancy saw a slight decrease in Clark County as of the health department’s Nov. 10 report. The health department reported 92.1% of hospital beds and 92.2% of ICU beds were occupied in the county, compared to 95.8% and 93.7%, respectively on Nov. 4.

Clark County’s share of confirmed COVID-19 cases stayed about the same as of Nov. 10. Washington State Department of Health data showed the county had roughly 5.9% confirmed cases and about 5.7% of deaths in the state.
