Clark County’s recent COVID-19 case rate decreases

Clark County’s recent COVID-19 case rate decreased in the latest data after experiencing a few weeks of incline.

Clark County Public Health’s April 27 report included 28 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, down from the 39.1 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

The recent statewide case rate decreased and is higher than Clark County’s rate. As of April 27, Washington had 30.5 cases per 100,000 population, down from 32 per 100,000 the prior week.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from April 11 to April 17.

Clark County Public Health tallied 119 additional cases between April 20 and April 27, lower than the 165 recorded between April 13 and April 20. The county’s case total includes 113,414 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began, although that number does not include at-home tests, which often go unreported.



Clark County Public Health’s April 27 report included two additional confirmed COVID-19 deaths and two deaths suspected to be due to the disease since its report the prior week. On April 20, the health department reported eight confirmed COVID-19 deaths and one death suspected to be due to the disease.

The four additional COVID-19 deaths bring Clark County’s total to 1,099, which includes 907 confirmed and 192 suspected deaths.

The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County rose in the latest data. As of April 27, 17.1% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results, more than the 14% reported on April 20. The number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied by COVID-19 patients and patients awaiting test results also rose to 15.1%, compared to 8.5% from the prior week.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions dropped slightly from the prior week. In its April 27 report, the health department reported 3.4 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, less than the 3.6 per 100,000 the prior week.

Clark County’s share of COVID-19 cases and deaths statewide stayed about the same in the latest data. According to the Washington State Department of Health, the county had about 5.8% of cases and about 6.8% of deaths in Washington.
