Clark County’s recent COVID-19 case rate sees small increase

Clark County’s latest rate of recent COVID-19 cases saw a slight increase after experiencing a decline for a few weeks.

Clark County Public Health’s June 16 report showed 159.3 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, a slight increase from the 157.9 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

The case rate previously increased for seven weeks straight before it started to decline two weeks ago, though it still remains as high as it was in February. The county’s average case rate continues to be lower than the rate statewide, which is 261.9 per 100,000 in the past seven days.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from May 29 to June 4.

The health department reported 893 new cases between June 9 and June 16, slightly fewer than the 905 reported between June 2 and June 9. In total, there have been 95,929 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began.

Clark County Public Health’s June 16 report included an additional confirmed COVID-19 death and two suspected to be due to the disease. The deaths reported were fewer than what was reported June 9 when the county saw a spike of 12 confirmed and suspected deaths.



The confirmed death reported June 16 was a woman older than 80. The suspected deaths were a man in his 70s and a woman in her 50s.

The deaths put Clark County’s total at 830, which includes 726 confirmed and 104 suspected to be due to COVID-19.

The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County experienced a drop following a large increase the week prior. As of June 16, 10.8% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results, down from the 26.7% reported June 9. The number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied by COVID-19 patients decreased to 5.3%, down from the 9.4% reported on June 9.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions saw a decrease in the latest data. In its June 16 report, the health department reported 8.6 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, down from 10 admissions per 100,000 population reported June 9.

Total hospital bed occupancy in the county rose overall as of the latest numbers. The health department reported 97.6% of hospital beds and 98.2% of ICU beds were occupied in the county, compared to 96.9% of all beds and 98.1% of ICU beds on June 9.

Clark County’s statewide share of confirmed COVID-19 cases stayed about the same while its share of deaths slightly increased as of June 16 compared to the prior week. The Washington State Department of Health reported the county had about 5.9% of cases and 6.4% of deaths.
