Around 825 people registered for the eighth annual Clark Public Utilities Race for Warmth, raising over $41,000 for Operation Warm Heart.

Runners and walkers from Clark County and across the country registered for the event held on Jan. 28 to Jan. 30 and raised more than $30,000 through registration fees and donations, while various Burgerville restaurants added another $11,500 worth of donations.

Every dollar of the registration fees and donations will be used to cover heating expenses for families who are struggling financially, a news release stated.

“We are so proud of and impressed by the generosity and kindness of the people and businesses in our community,” said Maxie Mayer, Clark Public Utilities marketing and events specialist. “Even with the virtual format, we had a fantastic turnout. Plus, many people gave an extra donation to Operation Warm Heart, which will be very beneficial to struggling local families.”

The average Operation Warm Heart grant totals $290 so the proceeds will directly benefit over 200 families in the community.

Participants were given the option to walk, run or roll on any route they chose. The race has been an annual tradition since 2014, the release stated.

Partners of the event included Area Heating & Cooling, New Tradition Homes, Burgerville, Columbia Credit Union, NW Natural, Ridgefield Raptors, WPUDA, Active Telesource, Corwin Beverage and CRESA, the release stated.
