GFWC meeting: 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 13. Join the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Battle Ground chapter for its meeting at 14208 NE 249th St., Battle Ground. Attendees will learn more about the Clark County Historical Society. GFWC is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.

Lewis River Rotary meeting: 7 to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18. Join the Lewis River Rotary club for its meeting at the Battle Ground Community Center at 912 E. Main St. in Battle Ground. Liz Cerveny, the executive director of the North Clark County Community Food Bank and mayor pro-tem of La Center, will speak about the current and future needs of the food bank. Guests are welcome. Geranium fundraiser sale: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 20. Join the P.E.O. Chapter DY for a sale that will feature hanging baskets and 4-inch pots. The nonprofit organization benefits women’s college scholarships and local charities. Only cash and check will be accepted at the event. It will take place at the Marshall House, 1391 Officer’s Row, Vancouver. 

La Center kindergarten registration: Kindergarten registration in La Center for the upcoming school year is now open. Children must turn 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, to enter kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. Registration is available online at lacenterschools.org or at the elementary office between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Parents and guardians must bring their child’s immunization record and a copy of their legal birth certificate. People are asked to register their children as early as possible. La Center Elementary School will also host Kindy Cub Nights for incoming students. They will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on April 20 and May 18. Either night can be attended.  Students and parents will work on activities that will prepare students for school.

Earth Day event: 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 22. The Battle Ground Lions Club will partner with the GFWC of Battle Ground during a park clean up and tree planting event with free children’s activities at Florence Robison Park at 1901 NW Ninth St. in Battle Ground. Participants should bring work gloves and wear sturdy shoes or boots, especially if the weather is wet. Tools, supplies, water and snacks will be provided. Earth Day tree planting: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. Join the Clark Public Utilities StreamTeam during a tree planting event. Space for the event is limited, so register in advance at Eventbrite online at tinyurl.com/2p8pdtdw.

Spring Art Show and Sale: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. The Battle Ground Art Alliance will hold its 19th annual Spring Art Show and Sale at the Battle Ground Community Center at 912 E. Main St. in Battle Ground. There will be 20 regional artists who will showcase their work along with a lineup of live demonstrations. For more information, go online to bgartalliance.com. 



Lilac Days: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from Saturday, April 22 through Sunday, May 14. The Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens will host Lilac Days in Woodland. The theme this year is “hats from the past” and collections will be on display in the new barn museum and in the historic house. The Klager house will also reopen this year. Guests can sign up at the gardens for tours of the house from 1 to 4 p.m. Photos and memorabilia of Hulda Klager and her family will be on display at the barn museum. There will be a quilt raffle fundraiser as well. The annual plant sale features lilacs and the gift shop will have lilac-themed items available. Admission to Lilac Days is $5 for adults. Children 12 and under can enter for free. The Lilac Gardens are located at 115 S. Pekin Road in Woodland. 

Book and Movie: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, April 24. Join the Battle Ground seniors group for its book and a movie club. Humane Society walk/run: 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 6. The Humane Society for Southwest Washington will hold its 32nd annual Walk/Run for the Animals event. People can bring their dogs to the event, which will be held at Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver. For more information or to register, go online to hssw.org/walk.

Hockinson’s Father Daughter Ball: 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 6. The seventh annual Hockinson’s Father Daughter Ball will take place at the Cloverlane Event Center at 16391 NE 182nd Ave., Brush Prairie. Father-daughter duos of all ages are invited for a night of dancing, crafts and appetizers. The theme for this year’s event is “Knights and Princesses.” Only knights need to buy a ticket and they can bring as many princesses as they have. Tickets are all inclusive and include a professional 5x7 photograph, food and activities. The community outreach event is hosted by Elim Lutheran Church. Proceeds will go toward sending Younglife teens to summer camps. Tickets must be purchased in advance on eventbrite.com. 

Free Document Shredding and e-recycling: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6. The Battle Ground Lions Club will host its annual shredding and e-recycling event in the Battle Ground Albertson’s parking lot. The public is invited to bring personal documents to shred on-site. This year’s event will also accept tablets, laptops, computers, monitors, printers, mice, keyboards, game consoles and flat-screen televisions for recycling. Plant sale: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until items are sold out on Saturday, May 6. Join the Ridgefield Garden Club for its annual plant sale at Bennett Hall in Abrams Park in Ridgefield. The sale will feature hanging baskets, trees, herbs, sun and shade plants, shrubs, and homegrown vegetable and flower starts. Master Gardeners from the club will be on hand to answer questions. Cash, check or major credit cards are accepted. The Ridgefield Garden Club is a nonprofit organization. The sale helps fund its projects throughout the year. Creative cardmaking class: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10. Join the Battle Ground Senior Citizen group for a creative cardmaking class at the Battle Ground Senior Center, 116 NE Third Ave., Battle Ground. The event is held every other month. Hazel Dell Parade of Bands: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20. The 57th annual Hazel Dell Parade of Bands will include 25 local bands, parade floats, classic cars and more. Several roads will be closed for the parade. Starting at 8 a.m., Hazel Dell Avenue will be closed from 78th to 99th streets. At 10 a.m., 63rd Street from Hazel Dell Avenue to Highway 99 will be closed, along with Highway 99 from 63rd Street to 79th Street. Vacation Bible School: 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 26 to Thursday, June 29. Join Bethel Lutheran Church for “Stellar VBS: Shine Jesus’ Light.” It will be held at the church, which is located at 12919 NE 159th St. in Brush Prairie. The Vacation Bible School will feature teamwork-building games, songs, Bible learning activities and more.
