Delays expected on southbound I-5 near Woodland this weekend

Travelers on southbound Interstate 5 through Woodland should plan ahead to avoid delays in northern Clark County this weekend, stated a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Significant congestion and delays are expected from Friday night to Monday morning, along a two-mile stretch of the interstate between the East Fork Lewis River and North Fork Lewis River as contractor Granite Construction Company continues work on a pavement rehabilitation project.

“During peak afternoon and evening travel times, traffic along this stretch of I-5 experiences heavy congestion, significant backups and delays,” stated the release. “Travelers can help reduce congestion and avoid delays by shifting trips to another time or by using an alternate route.”

Single lane closures will remain in place through the weekend and nighttime double lane closures may occur on Friday from 9:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28; on Saturday night from 8:30 p.m. to 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29 and on Sunday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30.

“While contractor crews have been working around-the-clock to reopen all three lanes of southbound I-5 by early next week, intermittent, nighttime, single-lane and double-lane closures will be needed for paving, striping and drainage work,” stated the release.

The $7.6 million project is scheduled for completion this fall.
