District roundup: North Clark County athletes secure spots at state, while others end their seasons

The La Center Wildcats were the lone North Clark County team to make it to the playoffs for baseball.

The Wildcats beat Lynden Christian, 9-7, in a regional matchup at Camas High School on Saturday, May 20. Later in the day, in another win-or-go-home game, La Center’s season came to a close after a 6-5 loss to Cedar Park Christian of Bothell in the 1A state quarterfinals, ending their state run.

The Woodland and Ridgefield girls softball teams played in the 2A districts that took place on May 18 and May 19 in Chehalis.

Woodland lost its two games with a 4-3 loss against Tumwater and were defeated 25-14 by W.F. West, ending their season.

In Chehalis, Ridgefield secured the title of district champions after the softball team went 3-0 in the tournament.

Game one ended with a score of 7-5 over W.F. West, which was followed by a game two win of 4-3 over Tumwater. In the district championship game, Ridgefield defeated Centralia, 5-2, as the Spudders secured their spot at state. Ridgefield will take part in the state playoffs on May 26 and May 27 in Selah. Game one is scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 26 against East Valley.

The Prairie girls softball team competed in the 3A districts on May 18 through May 20 in Lacey. In game one, Prairie secured a 10-0 win over Auburn and later were defeated by Yelm in a 9-8 game. In game three, which was a win-or-go-home matchup against Auburn Riverside, Prairie ended its season with a 4-3 loss.

As for Hockinson, the boys soccer season came to a close on May 16 after a 3-0 loss against North Kitsap High School in the opening round of the 2A state playoffs.

In 1A track and field, multiple athletes from La Center qualified for the state tournament on May 25 through May 27 in Yakima. Davari Grauer qualified for the boys 100-meter and 200-meter, while Malachi Wallway qualified for the 400-meter. Carter Sherry qualified for the 800-meter, Logan Hubler qualified for the 1600-meter and Will Simmons qualified for the 300-meter hurdles.

The boys 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also qualified, while Isabella Higgins qualified for the girls 800-meter. Ella Schoene qualified for state in the shot put event and Nora Hendrix qualified for the high jump event.

In 2A track and field, Hockinson, Woodland and Ridgefield will send athletes to the state tournament that will take place May 25 through May 27 in Tacoma.



For Ridgefield, Michael King qualified for the boys 100-meter and 200-meter runs. Timothy Bradshaw, Evan Hollis and Davis Sullivan qualified for the boys 800-meter, while Liam Rapp qualified for the 1600-meter. Isaiah Cowley and Landon Kelsey qualified for the boys 110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and the long and triple jumps.

Ridgefield’s 4x100 and 4x400 boys relay teams also qualified. McKenna Calkins qualified for the girls 100- and 200-meter runs, while Danica Allen qualified in the 1600-meter and Charlize Kellmer secured a spot in the 3200-meter.

Madison Ruddy will go on to state to compete in the girls 100-meter hurdles and in the triple jump, while Britney Ketels secured a spot in the 300-meter hurdles.

Ridgefield’s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also secured a spot at state, while Sarah Proctor qualified for the girls pole vault event.

For Hockinson, Zieynita Stidum qualified for the girls 200-meter event, while Celia Racanelli will compete at state in pole vault.

For Woodland, Hayden Clark qualified for the boys javelin event and Mariah Stover will participate in the girls 100-meter hurdles. Collett MacDonald qualified for the girls shot put event, while Addy Siemer qualified for the high jump.

In 3A track and field, Prairie will also send athletes to the state tournament set for May 25 to May 27 in Tacoma.

Ethan Cabral qualified for the boys 400-meter, while Ayden Walker secured a spot in the 800-meter. Prairie’s 4x400 boys relay team will also head to state. Will Foster qualified for the boys discus, Alex Juhl secured a spot in the javelin event, and Alex Ford qualified for the boys high jump event.

Ty Allinger will compete at state in the long jump, while Evan Davis qualified for the boys triple jump and Diamond Doutrive qualified for the girls high jump event.

In 4A track and field, Faizah Ford is Battle Ground’s lone state championship qualifier in the girls long jump. The 4A state tournament will take place on May 25 through May 27 in Tacoma.
