The Clark County hearings examiner will hold a hearing on April 28 about the Yacolt Mountain Quarry’s application to expand.

A news release from the East Fork Community Coalition stated the current 83-acre quarry plans to expand to include an additional 110 acres.

The coalition plans to attend the meeting to ask the hearing examiner to reject the quarry’s application until a full environmental impact statement is completed and Clark County enforces compliance with the quarry’s conditional use permit, stated the release.

“Tenuous ecological issues, such as landslide potential above Lucia Falls Park, homes, and the East Fork Lewis River, as well as run off into the river that threatens endangered species of salmon and steelhead, are key among the complaints,” stated the release from the coalition. “Beyond that are health concerns.”

The notice for the meeting states “the purpose of the public hearing is to review the proposed site plan and conditional use permit for surface mining and to review any SEPA appeals that may be filed.”

Anyone who wants to submit testimony must contact county staff no later than noon on April 28 to sign up to testify. They can email landuse@clark.wa.gov or call 564-397-4489. Staff will provide those who reach out with information on how to participate in the hearing.
