Furry Friends cat rescue to hold online auction

Furry Friends will hold an online auction dubbed “We Can Move Meow-Tains” from Thursday, March 30 through Sunday, April 2, to raise funds in preparation of “kitten season.”

Furry Friends, a nonprofit, expects to perform over 400 spay and neuter surgeries in 2023.

“The purpose of this auction is to bring attention to kitten season,” stated a news release from the organization. “Springtime is when love is in the air and we start to see ‘kitten season’ kick into full swing.”

The spay and neuter operations aim to help control Clark County’s cat population. All of the proceeds from the online auction will go toward the over $50,000 Furry Friends’ projects it will need to provide proper medical care to the animals it serves.

Items in the online auction include custom cutting boards, locally crafted wine sets and cat oriented bundles. Furry Friends hopes to raise $15,000 through the sale of items and from donations during the auction.

As an example of the work the organization does, Diane Stevens, the marketing director for Furry Friends, stated they recently rescued nine kittens from a hoarding situation. All of the kittens were diagnosed with upper respiratory infections and they also found fleas, mites and worms. One of the kittens died because of its malnourished state.

The release stated the remaining eight kittens are now ready to be spayed and neutered as Furry Friends looks for new homes for the animals.

“Furry Friends is a volunteer run organization with the goal of saving abused, abandoned and relinquished cats by providing them with medical care and socialization, spay/neutering and shelter until they are placed in appropriate adoptive homes,” stated the release.

The organization was founded in 1999 in Vancouver and is a nonprofit, no-kill cat rescue and adoption organization.

The auction will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, and ends at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 2.
