'Give More 24!' set for Sept. 23 as area nonprofits aim to raise $3.2 million

Area nonprofits are hoping to raise $3.2 million during a 24-hour online giving marathon called “Give More 24!” scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23.

This year, more than 200 nonprofits will participate, including ones in Battle Ground, Hockinson and Yacolt. The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington launched the event in 2013.

Last year, 6,620 donors raised $2.9 million for 230 nonprofits that provide programs and services in Clark, Cowlitz and Skamania Counties, stated a news release.

"Last year’s flood of support was a lifeline for nonprofits as they responded to increasing community needs,” said Jennifer Rhoads, president of the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington. “Those needs persist and giving to local causes is one way we can help build a recovery that supports everyone and every sector.”

Nonprofits run the gamut and include organizations that support animals, the arts for veterans and youth development, among others.

Supporters can make donations starting at midnight on Sept. 23. Rhoads said each donation has the potential to earn additional funds because of more than $500,000 in matching funds and prizes that have been provided by donors and sponsors.

Participants can share their favorite causes on social media or start a personal fundraiser with the click of a button. Businesses can also take part by launching workplace giving campaigns with tools and resources provided on the website, stated a news release.

Those who want to donate or learn more about the nonprofits involved should go online to GiveMore24.org.
