The Hockinson boys swim team finished in seventh place at the 2A state championships at the King County Aquatics Center on Feb. 18, which is the best in program history.
Hockinson finished with a combined team score of 154.5, ahead of Squalicum High School, which garnered a score of 146.
After the Hawks placed fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.28, they sat at fifth place in the state competition.
In the 200 yard IM finals, Alex Wendler, of Hockinson, was disqualified, which dropped the team to ninth place.
On the fourth final of the day, Parker Dangleis finished the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.71, securing third place and boosting the team to sixth place overall. Dangleis saw another podium finish with a second place time of 47.10 in the 100-yard freestyle.
After two podium results from Dangleis, the Hawks sat at eighth place at state with 74.5 points. The relay team once again finished in the top five, this time securing a third place result in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.30. That moved Hockinson to seventh place with three events left.
Hockinson’s Liam Dunn secured a sixth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke finals with a time of 56.49.
Going into the final two events, Hockinson sat at sixth place with 119.5 points. Wendler then secured an eighth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.91.
During the final event of the day, the Hawks achieved a seventh place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:32.01, which solidified the team score of 154.5 and a seventh place finish overall.
Pullman High School took first place with a total team score of 286. Pullman’s athletes placed in each event with four separate first place finishes.
The Ridgefield Spudders boys swim team finished 24th at state with 19 total points.
In the 3A finals, Prairie High School finished with three points with a 14th place finish in the 500-yard freestyle.
