The Hockinson High School football team is starting their season on Saturday, Aug. 24, with their third annual “kick off” event to raise funds to travel almost 270 miles in style.
The Hawks’ week two road game on Friday, Sept. 13, against Mount Baker High School is 268 miles away, or roughly four hours and 36 minutes by car. The Hockinson Touchdown Club is hoping to raise $2,500 from the kick off event to assist in funding the trip in a charter bus instead of a school bus, said Kara Kadow, club president.
The Hockinson Touchdown Club invites all members of the community to join in on the fun and get excited for the 2024 football season, Kadow added.
The fundraising event begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. at Hockinson High School on Aug. 24. A $5 donation admission is required per-person.
The day features a seven-on-seven clash of current players and former players in an alumni football game that will feature players from the 2017 and 2018 state championship rosters. Players will include Canon Racanelli, Matt Henry, Kordell Johnson, Bailey and Wyatt Jones and more great Hockinson alumni.
Also during the event, cheerleaders will perform and provide a face-painting station. Along with other great activities for all ages including a kids obstacle course, a cornhole tournament will take place during the day, with a buy-in required.
Food vendors such as Flatliners Grill and Snowie Vancouver will be serving up meals and snow cones during the day.
