In loving memory of Carl Lloyd Asch: 1935-2022

Carl Lloyd Asch, 87, of Ridgefield, Washington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his home on Oct. 29, 2022.  Carl was born on May 5, 1935, the only son of Delora Mae Brown and Lloyd Thomas. He was raised in San Diego, California and then lived in La Center, Washington, graduating from La Center High School in the class of 1954.

A year after graduation, he married the love of his life Alyce Eskelin and went on to enter the United States Air Force where they were stationed in San Antonio, Texas for the next four years. After the service they returned back to Clark County eventually settling in Ridgefield where they have resided since. 

Carl worked at American National Can Company for 32 years as a millwright and electrician, retiring in 1988 to start his second career of turning wood on his lathe. His love of woodworking/ turning would continue for the next 34 years as Carl mastered the craft and produced many unique lathe pieces that now adorn many a home locally and around the world. He sold pieces at local shows and craft fairs along with his site on Etsy. Besides his love of turning wood, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing along with traveling.  Carl was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Alyce Asch of 67 years; his children Tom Asch, Robin Bergman and Jeff Asch; grandchildren Taylor London, Dawn Beckman, Chris Bergman, Andrew Asch and James Asch; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 28, 2022, at Northwood Park Cemetery, 16407 NE 15th Ave., Ridgefield, Washington. Immediately following the service there will be a small reception at the American Legion Hall at 14011 NE 20th Ave., Vancouver, Washington, 98686.
