Gladys Irene Hill, affectionately known as "Glady," passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2025, at the age of 89.
Glady was the beloved mother of two children, Raymond and Shannon, a devoted grandmother to five grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother of three. Her love for her family was boundless, and it was never a question that her heart belonged to them. She leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue for generations to come.
Glady was a graduate of Battle Ground High school, class of 1953.
She had a special connection to Prairie Field, a place that her father and mother founded. She devoted countless hours to the success of Prairie Field, a community hub where families gathered and memories were made. It was incredibly important to her that the community always had a place to play adult softball. Glady was also deeply patriotic, always supporting her country with unwavering loyalty while embracing her Finnish heritage.
Known for her vibrant personality and her organizational skills, Glady was the go-to party planner for every occasion. Glady’s spirit of joy and hospitality made every event memorable.
Among her most cherished memories were her many trips to Disneyland, which brought her immense joy. She was a strong advocate for women, proudly walking in the Women's March in Washington, D.C., in 2018. She also helped coach some of the first girls softball teams in the 70s at Glenwood Little League, once girls could play. She enjoyed the thrill of early morning garage sales, always on the hunt for a treasure. She had a competitive streak, playing pool in her league and forming lasting friendships along the way. The sign of a well-lived life is the tears shed by those left behind. How lucky we are to have had someone that makes saying goodbye so hard. Glady touched the hearts of everyone she met, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, family members and friends who were waiting to welcome her with open arms.
Donations may be made in her honor to Fire District 3.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Prairie Tavern.
