In loving memory of Jean Cody: 1933-2022

Jean Cody, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 25, 2022, at the age of 89. 

Jean was born on May 27, 1933, in Seattle, Washington. She was the third of six children born to Thomas and Edith Overby. When she was 6 years old, Jean and several of her siblings moved to Battle Ground, Washington, where they were raised by various aunts and uncles. Jean graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1951. After graduation, Jean entered the banking industry as an employee of First National Bank in the Kenton area of Portland, Oregon. 

Jean married Don A. Cody in April of 1958. She was a busy farmer’s wife, dividing her time between farms in Battle Ground, Brush Prairie and Crane, Oregon. Jean enjoyed gardening, attending plays and volunteering in the community as a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the BGHS Boosters. Jean was a fantastic cook and baker. She was also an avid cookbook collector who loved to read cookbooks and make the tasty recipes she found for her family and friends. 

Jean was preceded in death by son Rodney, husband Don, sisters Lenora Overby and Nola Overby, and brothers Gordon Overby and Marshall Overby. 

She is survived by daughter Karen Cody Williams of Vancouver, Washington; son Don P. Cody of Crane, Oregon; grandsons Drew (Taran) Cody of Crane, Oregon, Zach (Alison) Cody of Nampa, Idaho, Jason Williams of Vancouver, Washington, and Kevin Williams of Vancouver, Washington; five great-grandchildren and brother Tom Overby of Renton, Washington. 

Jean’s family would like to thank Minnie Rosu and her staff at Guardian Angels Group Home for their wonderful care. 

A funeral mass will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1603 N. Parkway Ave., Battle Ground, Washington.
