In loving memory of Kenneth M. Buchanan: 1937-2023

Posted

Kenneth Maynard Buchanan was born Nov. 27, 1937, in Los Angeles and passed away March 13, 2023, in Ridgefield, Washington.

Ken is survived by his wife, Sigrid; five children, Debbie Gadd, Julie Hayden, Loren Buchanan, Lori Oppenlander and Julia Chipman; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He and Sigrid were married Oct. 28, 1967. They enjoyed loving and laughing together for the next 55 years.

After attending Banning High School, he joined the Navy, where he worked as a radioman and was stationed for a time at the Pentagon. Ken was a second generation member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union for over 40 years. He worked as a crane operator for American President Lines for the last 16 years of his career.

After retiring in 2000, they relocated to Ridgefield, Washington, from Long Beach, California. For the next 23 years, he spent most days in a four-door garage that most men only dream of having, working on restoring classic cars, antique gas pumps and lubesters. Ken was extremely friendly and loved people. He made friends everywhere he went as he seemingly knew no strangers. He always had time for family and friends. He gave his life to the Lord shortly after marrying Sigrid. He is remembered as a generous, caring person, and will be missed by many.

There will be a celebration of life memorial service at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Liberty Bible Church of the Nazarene, 12401 NE Salmon Creek Ave., Vancouver, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to contribute to “Tunnels to Towers Foundation” in his name.
