Letter to the editor: Benton is willing to fix the broken Clark County Council

Posted

Dear editor,

I have known Don Benton for many years. He is the kind of person who cannot stand by and watch someone be mistreated. Whether the entity doing the mistreating is another person or a government entity, Don has always stood up for his neighbors. Way back in 1994 when he first was elected as a citizen legislator he immediately added the requirement for a 12-foot fence into the state budget to protect citizens living around the Larch Mountain Correctional Facility from the regular weekly escapes that were occurring in those days. When the state lied and said there were no violent offenders housed at Larch, Don proved that was not true and the Legislature passed his provision for the fence. There have been very few escapes since the fence was built. Don jumped into action on the citizens behalf again when Roy Russell was released from jail and shortly after he murdered Chelsea Harrison in Vancouver. It took two years because criminal loving Democrats blocked his efforts the first year, but he got his bill to strengthen three strikes to the governor’s desk the second time around and she signed it into law. Thanks to Don’s tenacity, no murderer will ever get through that loophole again. Time and time again, Don used his wisdom and experience to help his fellow citizens in Clark County. We are fortunate he is willing to come to our aid again to fix the broken Clark County Council and to do something about this runaway crime wave in Clark County. I encourage a vote for the only conservative on the ballot for county council in North County, Don Benton.

Sincerely,

Rob Enders,
