Editor,
As a grandmother and longtime resident of Hockinson and retired educator, I am writing to urge my fellow community members to support the upcoming bond election in February. This bond is not just about brick-and-mortar buildings; it is about securing the future of our children and ensuring that every student in our district has the space, resources and opportunities they deserve to succeed.
Over the years, I have seen how much our community has grown, and with that growth comes the need for more classroom space and modernized facilities. Our schools were built years ago, when our district was much smaller, and they are now facing overcrowding. A new elementary school will not only relieve some of that pressure but also provide an environment where students can thrive — safe, spacious and equipped to meet the needs of the 21st century.
Additionally, the bond will help remodel existing buildings to ensure that all our students, whether in elementary, middle or high school, have access to the educational resources and space they need. From science labs to gymnasiums, every student deserves a learning environment that supports their potential. Let’s make sure that no child is left behind simply because the space is outdated or overcrowded.
As someone who has lived here for many years, I know how strong our sense of community is. We’ve always been a place that supports one another, and now is the time for us to come together and make a decision that will benefit our children and our future.
Please join me in voting for this important bond in February. Our children are our most precious asset, and we must invest in them to ensure they have the tools they need to build a bright future.
