Letter to the editor: It is a loss to toss out the Christ Child with the wrapping paper

Posted

‘Tis Christmas season again, the most celebrated birthday in world history and reasonably the most important. God, the eternal “I am,” born in human flesh to endure our world 33 years so He could offer Himself, a perfect sacrifice for our transgressions. He created us, paid our punishment (so He “might be just and the justifier of him which believeth on Jesus,”) after we fell into sinfulness, rose victorious, ascended into Heaven, gifts all who call on Him with His righteous covering and intercedes for us offering us eternal life. This is the ultimate Christmas gift. It is a loss beyond words to toss out the Christ Child with the wrapping paper and only retain the tinsel and lights, formerly used to celebrate His birth, a birth first shouted from the sky to humble shepherds of “Peace on earth, goodwill toward men.” Peace with God through the knowledge of His forgiving love is the ultimate peace and losing it the ultimate loss. Have a truly Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year blessed with peace.
