Letter to the editor: Join me in voting for Greg Cheney, John Zingale and Sue Marshall

With last year’s charter amendment and legislative redistricting, we find ourselves in a new County Council District (District 5) and a new legislative district (LD 18) without even moving. I also note all of the candidates for these offices have not been in these positions before. That makes researching the candidates extremely important. I’ve taken the opportunity to research all candidates and have talked with most.

Regarding the 18th Legislative District races, I find that Greg Cheney, Stephanie McClintock and John Zingale have all done their homework on these positions since the first candidate forums back in June and July. While I may not agree with them on every single opinion or position they take, I am impressed with how much they’ve put into understanding the needs of the new 18 Legislative District’s geography. Greg Cheney gets my vote because, while I may not agree with him on using tolls to help pay for the interstate bridge replacement, in my conversations with him he listens and wants to understand multiple viewpoints. John Zingale also gets the nod from me because of his being an award-winning educator (education is very important to us in the 18th LD) and that he is very interested in state investment in broadband in rural Clark County, especially when it comes to supporting education.

In the County Council District 5 race, I am voting for Sue Marshall. As a resident of North Clark County myself, I share her vision of protection of valuable and productive farmland instead of turning it into urban subdivisions. I also note that as a small farm owner, she understands and values the need to preserve rural north county and is best equipped to provide leadership on the upcoming comprehensive plan update.

Please join me in voting for Greg Cheney, John Zingale and Sue Marshall in November.
