One local service club donated 5,261 school supply items and $200 to the Battle Ground Education Foundation office, just in time for the start of the school year.

For students, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Battle Ground brought in 738 pens, 515 rulers and 388 pencil sharpeners on Tuesday, August 17, according to a news release.

The group started collecting items months ago to provide a wide selection of supplies for students in need.

The Battle Ground Family and Community Resource Center will distribute the donations to students throughout the year.

“I think it's safe to say we'll be good on school supplies for the next couple of years thanks to your and so many others' donations,” said center coordinator Lydia Sanders. “Between your donations and volunteering your time, you have helped in monumental ways to make sure that all students in BGPS will have what they need to start school this year.”
