Fall sports for North Clark County schools have concluded as several teams in different sports made their way to state playoff games, which included one appearance in a championship.
Football: La Center wins first playoff game
North Clark County saw three of its six football teams make it to the state playoffs this year.
For the 1A Division, the La Center Wildcats won their first playoff game against Hoquiam, 63-14, but were taken down in the second round by Cashmere 22-17. La Center won all of its four games in the Trico league, and only lost one game prior to the playoffs for a 9-2 record. They secured their league title following their 31-0 game against Castle Rock before the playoffs.
In the 2A division, both Ridgefield and Woodland’s teams made it to playoffs. The Spudders had a 5-5 record this season, winning five of their seven games against Greater St. Helens League opponents. They lost to Tumwater 14-35 in the first round.
The Woodland Beavers had a 4-6 season this year, winning three of their seven league games. They lost to W.F. West in the first-round of playoffs, 7-34.
The Prairie Falcons made it close to a playoff appearance. The 6-4 Falcons tied with Mountain View and Evergreen for second place in the GSHL’s 3A division. They fell in a tiebreaker game to Mountain View, 0-7.
Volleyball: Ridgefield get to finals in 2A championship
The Spudders volleyball team made it to the state finals but lost to Columbia River in the last match of the season. Following 3-0, 3-1, and 3-0 wins against Sedro-Woolley, Ellensburg and Pullman respectively, Ridgefield lost to the Rapids 0-3 in the championship game.
The Wildcats earned a league championship with their volleyball team this year. La Center played two games in the state playoffs, losing against Eastside Prep, 2-3, and Cedar Park Christian in a knockout round, 0-3.
The Falcons volleyball team also made it to the state playoffs. Prairie lost its first match against Bellevue, 0-3, and then succumbed to Seattle Prep in a knockout, round 1-3.
Girls soccer: Ridgefield, Hockinson win first playoff games
The Spudders appeared in the playoffs for a state championship in girls soccer, alongside leaguemates, the Hockinson Hawks.
Both Ridgefield and Hockinson won their first playoff matches. Ridgefield secured a 3-1 win against East Valley and Hockinson won 2-1 against Fife. Both teams lost their second round matches, with the Spudders losing 1-4 to Seahome and the Hawks losing 1-2 against Enumclaw.
Cross country: Four teams place at state
At the cross country state competition, La Center boys placed 10th as a team with an average time of 18:43.6. Sophomore Carter Sherry made the top 50 overall runners, placing 24th in the race with a 17:40.3 time.
In the 2A division, both the Spudders and the Hawks had placement appearances.
Ridgefield’s girls team took 10th place overall with an average time of 22:37.1. Junior Charlize Kellmer placed 31st overall with a time of 20:31.9. Close behind was Hockinson with an 11th overall placement and an average time of 22:21.6. Freshman Lyla Taylor secured 33rd place overall with a time of 20:36.4.
The Spudder boys placed 15th at state with a team average time of 18:44.6.
For the 3A Division, Prairie made it to state, placing 20th with an average time of 18:56.63.
