The Pink Lemonade Project has received a $60,000 grant from the Cowlitz Tribal Foundation Clark County Fund to support breast cancer patients during and after treatment.

The two year grant will provide financial assistance through its Pink Practicalities program to support patients with urgent needs across Southwest Washington, stated a news release.

“We are grateful for the extraordinary generosity of the Cowlitz Tribal Foundation for this two-year grant to support women and men with breast cancer who have additional financial needs during treatment and recovery,” said Chief Executive Officer Susan Stearns. “This support goes directly into the hands of breast cancer patients and helps ease some stress. Both patients and our local health care partners alike appreciate this responsive program that helps with items not covered by health insurance.”

Pink Practicalities includes financial assistance for utilities, food, neuropathy treatment, wigs, lymphedema compression sleeves, co-insurance for prostheses and surgical bras, and other needs. The program accepts requests from applicants through social workers and nurse navigators in health systems for people who are in treatment and recovery, as well as those who live in or receive care for breast cancer in Southwest Washington and the Portland metro area.

Founded in 2010, the Pink Lemonade Project was created with the goal to educate, empower and support people affected by breast cancer. This year, the project helped nearly 800 people who were impacted by breast cancer, stated the release. More information can be found online at pinklemondeproject.org.

The Cowlitz Tribe Education and Arts Fund was established in 2019 and is one of the largest funders in Clark County. It has an annual payout target of roughly $2.2 million, stated the release.
