Prairie and Battle Ground softball lose out in state games

The softball teams of Prairie High School and Battle Ground High School ended their seasons in the losers bracket of the state tournament on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25.
In the 3A state tournament in Lacey, the Prairie Falcons lost, 13-0, to Snohomish High School in the fifth inning. The loss sent the Falcons to a tough slate of loser-out games for a chance at placing third or fourth place. The Falcons next played Juanita High School of Kirkland, who lost their opening matchup, 9-1, to Seattle Prep, later Friday the Falcons lost, 8-7, sending them home. The 3A losers bracket included four loser-out games.



In the 4A state tournament taking place in Richland, the Battle Ground Tigers lost, 9-0, to Kamiak High School. The loss sent the Tigers to a fierce slate of must-win games to compete for a third or fourth-place finish in state. The Tigers won against No. 3-seeded Richland High School, 7-1, after the Bombers surprisingly lost to No. 14-seed Sumner High School. The Tigers then lost, 9-1, to the Skyview Storm, ending their season.
