Ridgefield City Council opens applications for vacant seat

Following Ridgefield City Council member and Mayor Ron Onslow’s resignation, which took effect Jan. 10, the city has begun its application process to fill his Position 1 seat. The council is required to fill the vacant position within 90 days.

To be eligible for Ridgefield City Council, candidates must be a resident of the city for at least one year before applying. Candidates must attend and participate in a town hall public forum and an interview process with the City Council. They must also be registered voters who are willing to serve until the 2025 election results are certified in December, a news release by the City of Ridgefield stated.

Locals have until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, to submit their applications. Prospective candidates can apply online at shorturl.at/IFkj3. A questionnaire is included, and candidates must provide a letter of interest and resume, the news release stated.



The city will hold a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Ridgefield Administrative and Civic Center, Columbia Assembly Room, 510 Pioneer St. to introduce the candidate finalists. The council will review candidates and appoint a new member at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, the news release stated.

Residents can submit questions for applicants online at RidgefieldRoundtable.org. Questions must be submitted before 4:30 p.m. Feb. 19 to be read at the Feb. 20 town hall meeting, the release stated.

The meetings will be open to the public and streamed online at ridgefieldwa.us/163/City-Council.
