Officials from the Ridgefield School District recognized its April employee and students of the month at a school board meeting on Tuesday, April 11.
Valerie Bennett, from Ridgefield High School, was named the employee of the month. Bennett is a special education paraprofessional for the school’s Life Skills classroom. She is described as a person who “is all heart and kindness with a calm and steady demeanor.” Bennett, who raised 10 kids of her own, has provided stability for both students and staff in the classroom for years, according to a news release. She is said to be a team player and an advocate for all of their students.
Austin Glenn, a pre-kindergartener, was recognized as the student of the month at the Early Learning Center. Glenn is said to be “a wonderful and bright young man,” who is a leader among his peers. He has a kind heart and works to help both his friends and teachers throughout the day. “Whether it is having an assigned job in the classroom or simply seeing a friend in need, Austin is willing to help anyone with anything,” stated the release.
Ollie Schmitz, a second grader, was selected as the student of the month at South Ridge Elementary School. Schmitz is described as a kind student who demonstrates empathy for others and is a joy to have at the school. “He is quick to recognize when a classmate needs a hand,” stated the release. Schmitz is known for his vibrant smile and cheerful greetings. He also has the ability to understand “when to give and when to take in friendships.”
Talbot Childs, a second grader, was recognized as the student of the month at Union Ridge Elementary School. Childs is described to be kind, responsible and “an all-around amazing kid,” according to the release. In P.E., Childs is said to go above and beyond by encouraging others, while in music, he shows his resilience when he faces difficult tasks. “He speaks respectfully to students and staff, often with a tone of politeness that sets him apart.”
Else Urias, a sixth grader, was selected as the student of the month at Sunset Ridge Intermediate School. Urias is described as “truly delightful” and walks into the classroom with a smile on her face each day. “She is the type of person who sees the best in others and what she is doing,” stated the release. Urias also wants to see others succeed and is described to have a kind and gentle nature.
Naomy Martinez, an eighth grader, was selected as the student of the month at View Ridge Middle School. Martinez is said to be “a joy to have in class because of her positivity, her smile, and the way she strives to do her best.” She also advocates for herself and her peers, putting forth her best effort. The release stated Martinez displays the qualities of respect, responsibility and resilience.
Tobias Nelson, a ninth grader, was recognized as the student of the month at Wisdom Ridge Academy. Nelson was nominated by his English teacher who said, “Tobias Nelson is a superstar student at Wisdom Ridge and all-around great person. Tobias is intelligent, kind, resourceful and dedicated to his schooling.” In his spare time, Nelson loves to read, play chess and spend time outdoors.
Payton Grimm, a junior, was selected as the student of the month at Ridgefield High School. Grimm is said to exude “passion in everything she does.” She is involved in plays and musicals, the SPUD club, and helps plan the National Honor Society service project. “When Payton puts her mind to something, it’s bound to happen,” stated the release. She recently organized a hygiene drive and collected over 1,000 items after she heard the Family Resource Center was low on supplies.
