Ridgefield School District honors November employees and students of the month

The Ridgefield School District (RSD) honored its employees and students of the month on Nov. 12 at the regular Board of Directors meeting. Two employees and eight students were recognized, an RDS press release stated.

Employees of the Month

Emily Brabant, band teacher at Ridgefield High School

Emily Brabant has consistently demonstrated her commitment to Ridgefield High School’s music program for multiple years. She has grown the music program into a place where students develop their technical skills, teamwork and artistic abilities. “Her contributions are invaluable to both the performing arts program and the high school community,” the RSD press release stated.

Perla Hauge, paraprofessional at South Ridge Elementary School

Perla Hauge embodies the spirit of a dedicated, compassionate and proactive educator. “Her commitment to serving our students and supporting our staff is exceptional, making a lasting impact on our school community,” the release stated. Hauge works as a paraprofessional to improve operations at South Ridge Elementary School. 

Students of the Month

Bo Bucklin, pre-K at the Early Learning Center

Bo Bucklin is known as an excellent role model among his teachers and peers at the Early Learning Center. He exemplifies kindness and respectful behavior in the classroom, often aiding staff and students. “He helps out his friends with putting backpacks on, lining up and doing table activities. It has been a pleasure getting to know Bo and watching him grow in preschool,” an Early Learning Center staff member said in the press release.

Mikey Wheelon, second grade at Union Ridge Elementary School

Mikey Wheelon leads by example in his Union Ridge Elementary School classroom. Diligently completing his homework, Wheelon inspires his peers to do likewise. He also actively encourages other students to participate in the classroom. “He is a true bucket filler, going out of his way to include and celebrate his classmates,” Wheelon’s teacher said in the press release.

Sebas Pena Meza, third grade at South Ridge Elementary School



Sebas “Sebastian” Pena Meza exemplifies the trait of resilience. He is invested in his academic growth and consistently comes to South Ridge Elementary School prepared to learn. His love for learning is contagious, and he frequently shares his knowledge with the classroom. “He is a wonderful example of a student who really cares about his growth, knows how to learn from mistakes and doesn't give up,” Pena Meza’s teacher said in the  press release.

Olivia Henderson, fifth grade at Sunset Ridge Intermediate School

Olivia Henderson is a thoughtful, studious person who radiates positivity at Sunset Ridge Intermediate School. She always takes responsibility for her homework and persists throughout challenges. Her positivity and patience, even while studying difficult subjects, showcase her resilient character. “Her maturity and balanced approach to both schoolwork and life set a wonderful example for her peers. Olivia is not just an exceptional student; she is a role model,” Henderson’s teacher said in the press release.

Anna Chapin, eighth grade at View Ridge Middle School

Anna Chapin’s dedication to academic mastery, rather than mere completion, has impressed multiple teachers at View Ridge Middle School. “Her pursuit of learning sets a wonderful example, and she always contributes thoughtfully with her insights as well as her questions,” English teacher Bob Amble said in the press release. Chapin enjoys singing, and her music teacher Bobbe Whetsell praises her musical leadership skills. “She’s a true asset to the choir and a joy to work with,” Whetsell said.

Jade Gonzalez, 11th grade at Ridgefield High School

Jade is a source of positivity for students and teachers at Ridgefield High School. She frequently strikes up conversations with others, hoping to brighten their day. Her charisma helps foster a welcoming environment at the school. “Jade's gracious personality is infectious … She brings a calm atmosphere to the room and yet still encourages peers to be their authentic selves,” Gonzalez’s teacher said in the RSD press release. Gonzales enjoys participating in the school community and serves as the speech and debate team captain.

Elina Caine, 12th grade at Ridgefield High School

Elina Caine is a studious and artistic student who approaches school with sincerity and enthusiasm. She frequently assists her peers at Ridgefield High School, helping them understand complex concepts. She’s a patient and understanding tutor, making her a valuable classroom presence. “Elina is an extraordinary student who embodies the values of compassion, resilience and responsibility. We have no doubt Elina will continue to make a positive impact wherever her journey takes her,” Caine’s teacher said in the press release.

Ethan Jarrell, 12th grade at Wisdom Ridge Academy

Ethan Jarrell has grown significantly as a student since starting at Wisdom Ridge Academy last year. Jarrell now has gained greater confidence to try new things since joining the school. After graduation, he plans to travel across the country on a road trip. Then, he will return to Washington and enroll at Clark College to further his education. “Ethan is one example of the many outstanding students at Wisdom Ridge Academy, and we are proud of his success,” Jarrell’s teacher said in the RSD press release.
