Walkers and runners are invited to work up an appetite on Thanksgiving morning during the eighth annual Ridgefield Turkey Trot. All proceeds will benefit the Ridgefield Family Resource (RFRC) Center and Ridgefield Public Schools Foundation (RPSF).
The 5-kilometer walk/run will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at Union Ridge Elementary School, 330 N. Fifth Ave., Ridgefield. The route will wind through Abrams Park, turn at Carty Lake and follow Lake River before returning to the finish line at Union Ridge Elementary, a press release by Ridgefield School District stated.
The 5k is for fun and will not have a formal timer. Participants are welcome to personally track their times, the press release stated.
Before the Turkey Trot, a Drumstick Dash will take place at 8:45 a.m. The event is a short run, specifically meant for children 5 and under, the press release stated.
Registration for the Turkey Trot is available online at shorturl.at/T6tZL. Registration will remain open until the event begins, but participants are encouraged to register by 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, to guarantee the availability of a race shirt, the release stated.
Adult registration costs $35, $20 for children in high school or kindergarten and $10 for preschoolers. Ridgefield School District employees and children are eligible for a discount, according to the registration website.
Packet pickup for registered participants will take place from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Union Ridge Elementary School gym. Participants may also collect their packet before the event begins from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m, the press release stated.
The RFRC provides support to local students, families and staff in need. The program offers a food pantry and personal hygiene items. It also provides referrals to other resources, including health and crisis support, the RFRC website stated.
The RPSF is a non-profit organization that supports students’ academic and social needs. The program offers grants and scholarships to students and staff in the Ridgefield school district, the RPSF website stated.
