Ridgefield School District to host information night on replacement levy

The Ridgefield School District will host a levy information night on Tuesday, June 28 to provide details and answer questions about its replacement educational programs and operations levy on the Aug. 2 ballot.

Members of the community are invited to attend the event which will be held at 6 p.m. in the commons at the Ridgefield Administrative and Civic Center at 510 Pioneer St.

The Ridgefield School Board voted unanimously in May to put the replacement levy on the Aug. 2 special election ballot, stated a news release from the district. The levy is not a new tax. If approved, it will replace the levy that expires at the end of 2022.

“The local levy will allow the district to maintain educational programs and critical day-to-day school operations such as school staff not fully funded by the state, building maintenance, extracurricular activities, and more,” stated the release.

The release stated the Ridgefield School District has the second-lowest school tax rates of all K-12 districts in Clark County.

“While other districts rely on multiple levies to fund technology, transportation, capital projects and educational programs, Ridgefield funds all these aspects from a single levy,” stated the release. “Across Washington, nearly all of the 295 districts rely on levy money to provide important student programs and services.”

The three-year replacement levy will span from 2023 to 2025. If approved, the levy will maintain the current tax rate of $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value.

More information about the levy is available on the district’s website at www.ridgefieldsd.org/page/levy.
