Deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office have discovered two card skimmers at local 7-11 stores, the sheriff’s office said.
On Friday, Nov. 25, employees of a 7-11 store in Hazel Dell reported someone had put a card skimmer on the card reader located at the register, a release from the sheriff’s office stated. Deputies arrived and took the skimmer as well as other evidence of the suspect’s activities at the store.
The skimmer will be submitted for forensic processing, the release stated. Deputies will follow up on any leads obtained from the device.
Shortly after the first report, a 7-11 store in Orchards reported the same type of skimmer had been applied to their card reader machine, the release stated. Deputies determined the same suspect applied both devices.
Identifying information for the suspect will be released at a later time, according to the release.
“The Clark County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the 7-11 employees who were vigilant in checking their equipment following some suspicious activity and likely preventing additional people from being victimized,” the release stated.
The sheriff’s office is looking to talk to anyone who discovers their financial information was taken after visiting a 7-11 store. The office reminded residents to be careful of where they use bank cards and encourages people to report any suspicious-looking equipment to employees.
