The Reflector kicks off annual donation drive

Posted

As we enter our 113th year of publication, our award-winning community newspaper has continually provided news that matters to North Clark County, a community that is often underserved by other publications.

It’s true that there are other newspapers in the region, but The Reflector is unique in one very important aspect — our news is free. More than that, we pay to have it delivered directly to our readers every week.

Our model is built on the knowledge that not everyone can afford a subscription to their local newspaper but everyone nonetheless deserves access to reliable, accurate information about the communities in which they live and work.

“You get what you pay for” is a common refrain, but the opposite is true in North Clark County where we pick up the tab for community journalism.

And the quality of our newspaper speaks for itself.

In 2021 alone, The Reflector won first place in the general excellence category of the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association’s Better Newspaper Contest. Our reporters also secured first and second place in the social issue category, first place spots in personality profile categories and for a sports feature, as well as multiple second place prizes in areas such as COVID-19 coverage, history features and more.

In all, The Reflector brought home 11 awards, all while providing our newspaper free of charge to the community. We also increased our page counts to bring more news to our readers, but all of that wouldn’t be possible without our supporters.

The Reflector has long hosted voluntary donation drives, and this year is no exception. Through much of the COVID-19 pandemic, we postponed the drives because we knew our readers were likely struggling through the changing times. Now, as people return to a new normal, we are once again asking for support so we can preserve our high quality service and news coverage.

In the June 22 edition of The Reflector, readers will find a donation envelope. Although there is no obligation to give, every donation helps fuel our newsroom and its mission to report the news that’s important to our communities.

Whether it’s a sports team who moved on to the state competition, a community festival, coverage of the Clark County Council, or local city governments, The Reflector has it covered.

We hope you see the value in the news coverage we provide and help us as we continue to provide important information with integrity to communities in North Clark County.
